Is Wall of Thorns subject to damage reduction?

We eventually got them to negative hit points and CDG'ed them by pouring half of our only flask of acid into each of their chest cavities.
Even if you've house ruled acid as applicable for a coup de gras, 3 points of real damage isn't going to keep a troll down for long. Or are you saying that they all failed their Fort(13) saving throw?

CDG does max crit damage, right? So that's 6 points each.

And we had our rogue do the pouring. To sneak attack someone, you have to be able to target their vitals when they lose their dex bonus. When your chest cavity is open and your heart is pulled in half, we ruled that your vitals were targetable; when you have twice as much subdual damage as you have hit points, we ruled that you lose your dex bonus.

And sneak attack damage is the same sort of damage as the normal attack's damage.

And the rogue rolled well on his 2d6 sneak attack.

So it was more like a DC 25 Fort save, which they did both fail. :)

(Honestly, I think a reasonable ruling would be that carefully pouring acid into someone's heart kills them dead, no matter what. But we played it by the rules.)

Well, technically, you can't use acid to CdG. But it sounds like you went through enough trouble for it to count. ;)

A combatant can use a melee weapon to deliver a coup de grace to a helpless foe. A combatant can also use a bow or crossbow, provided the combatant is adjacent to the target. The attacker automatically hits and scores a critical hit.

An acid flask is a grenadelike weapon, requiring a ranged touch attack to hit.

That makes it almost impossible to kill trolls! Unless you have lots of flame magic and/or acid magic, that is. We've always CDG'ed trolls with flasks of acid and/or alchemist's fire.

There's no plausible reason, however, that someone couldn't use a grenade as a melee weapon, as long as they were willing to suffer the damage from the weapon. And considering that we were carefully pouring the acid, it oughtta be at least as effective damagewise as it'd be from throwing it at someone.

So you're right, we didn't go exactly by the rules. I think, though, it was an understandable deviation here.

You never heard of dousing them in oil (regular lantern oil will do!) and setting them on fire? All you need is a torch and some oil.

Troll. It's what's for dinner.

Wouldn't've worked on these yobbos. Stupid fire resistance!

Thats because half-red dragon trolls are really, really, really hard to kill. You're best bet is to beat them into submission and then drown them in a pool of water or something similar, since most people don't carry the gallons of acid needed to kill just one.

Eat them.

Feed the local village/humanoid tribes. Stomach acids should take care of those pesky regenerating son of a dragon troll.
