Is WotC playing 4d Chess with the 5.1 SRD CC?

For pity's sake - it isn't like we gave them any TIME to think it through, now did we? We put them under time pressure, and then we complain that they didn't take time to think things through?

I guess there's no pleasing some people.
That survey they held to determine what people wanted in 1.2? That was supposed to be open until today.

They're the ones who decided to announce the results early. And they could have said "we have seen you're unhappy, so we have plans to not revoke 5.1 and make sure all of your other issues are resolved to your satisfaction; we'll reveal all of those plans on the 17th after they've been finallized."

They're the ones that didn't give themselves the time.

Yes they did decide to announce earlier than their drop-dead date. Well before then. Interesting. Why might they do that?

Do you contend that, having announced that date, that all exterior pressure upon them suddenly stopped for them to think? That somehow announcing a date had us magically back off? Or, were they still bleeding D&D Beyond customers and getting hammered on social media?

So, that date really wasn't relevant to the pressure they were actually under to deliver an answer.

I addressed that:

Still some internal chaos, most likely. Political dust settling, and all.

I’m fairly sure that the speed through which the announcement and the CC release happened was due to the desire to push it through before corporate changed their minds. In particular, WotC has a history of seemingly unrelated VPs butting in to scuttle plans by the rank and file.

The term "armchair quarterback" comes to mind. It is really, really easy for someone not in the weeds and days afterwards to come up with the perfect solution to a problem.
Are you really trying to tell me that absolutely none of the WotC execs and employees involved were capable of saying "OK, we tell them we're not going to take away 5.1. That outta calm them down enough until the 17th. Now you guys, go through the SRD and make sure that we're not handing over anything we don't want them to have while the rest of us formalize our plans."?

Because that just makes them look even less competent, you know.
