The story sounds awfully familiar to the so called BOROMIR TEMPTATION... this "It can be used against the enemy" thing... tell him to watch the movie !!!

In most of our groups we would have jumped him and destroyed the statue whilst holding him down... not much discussion nowdays :D

Well, perhaps he is sticking to his alignment. Genocidal thoughts arent inherently evil in D&D. Look at how most parties treat orcs for example, especially those with more militant Paladins.

That said using such an item on Humans is a bit more troublesome.

In any case, if his actions are going to ruin the game its understandable.
