Info Please!!

For those of you that have it please give us some info. Does it have rules for Mutant Animals? I hear there is only one class; The Explorer, What are the three races covered in the rules? Any data would be appreciated.
Later,
Brutorz Bill

May you be Blessed by the Glow!

A couple more questions... ; )
How feasible/doable is it to make up a specific mutant Humanoid animal like a dog or horse, using the "Hairy" character type?

Do they have a version of Death Field Generation? and if so how does it compare to previous versions?

Thanks again,
Brutorz Bill

OK BB...

The rules for "Hairy" mutants are - You are Hairy. That's it...you are a generic animal mutant.

And no to Death Field Generation (the ultimate in unbalancing).

Time for me to speak my mind...

For the most part I think this article/mini-game is most useful as a roadmap for updating 4th edition GW materials to d20 standards. I like some of the things they have done here...but I also do not like others. I do not like single character class, I would have preferred rules on modifying existing PHB classes to fit into GW. I also do not like the insinuation early in the article that GW is unsuitable for a long term campaign...just rubs me the wrong way!

I do like the mutation and defect updates, as well as, the updated relics. I also think they could have done the mutations as templates, with the different subtypes. This also think that the mutation templates could be broken down further into specific subtypes (i.e. animal mutation - broken down into some sample animal types).

More ranting later!

Generic Mutant Animals?! = Aargh!
I asked about Death Field because that is a good power to gauge the edition's "angle". I see they skipped it and avoided that one all together. : )
I agree with you on the single class thing. One class is too limiting.

"I also do not like the insinuation early in the article that GW is unsuitable for a long term campaign just rubs me the wrong way!"

That's crap! Who said that? Tweet? I ran a Gamma World Campaign for 4 years! And it only stopped because the main players moved away.

Well looks like my copy of GW 4th edition will continue to hold an important place on my gaming shelf.
Thanks again for the info, feel free to add more as your time allows.
Regards,
Brutorz Bill

BB...

I am going to quote the article and you decide:

"Omega World is meant to offer a different roleplaying experience than that presented in the core Dungeons & Dragons game. It's more random and less balanced. It's meant to be a lot of fun toplay for a little while, but it's not designed to hold up as an indefinitely long campaign. Still it is designed to have lots of good and bad things happen to the PCs in even a few sessions."

Next quote:

"Omega World PCs aren't terribly balanced. You can get lucky and have good mutations that work together, and you can get unlucky and wind up with no mutations to get excited about. For a short campaign with a high death rate, this imbalance is part of the fun."

Keep in mind I did not type in the two paragraphs in between the two above...a bit of rationalizing is given for high character death rate and speedy advancement.

Still...the Explorer class only has 10 levels of advancement...this too adds to my feeling about long term viability.

Later!

Thanks for the info! If you haven't typed your arm off could we get some more details?

1) Could you post a sample mutation?

2) If the mutations are random, what are the Point Values for? Is there a Point Buy option as well?

3) How does Artifact discovery work? Is there a flowchart? Is there a possibility for disaster?

4) Are Black Ray weapons One Shot/One Kill?

5) What is a Laser Sword? How is it different from the classic GW Vibro Knife?

6) Can Hoops still turn metal to rubber?

Thanks!
