D&D 4E iTunes Store Apps for D&D4e

So my girlfriend just acquired an iTouch and the first thing she wants is a bunch of apps she can use to run and plan her D&D games, as well as run her characters. So does anyone have any recommended – ideally free – apps for running or playing D&D4E?

We don’t live in a country that has perpetual Internet access in every establishment, so ideally she’d like apps that can be operated without a net connection.

It's a shame for the Internet connection, anyway :

-MachDice (for dice rolling)

-when you have internet, iPlay4e (website) for character management

-if not, print your Character sheet to a pdf , import the PDF inside iBooks and look at your sheet that way

-or get "Goodreader", so you can edit the pdf "live" (you can check off used encounter/daily power directly on the pdf)

The best I've found are:

i4e - A character sheet application that's very customizable and very nice. Imports from the CB file and allows full editing once it's been imported. Runs locally, so for an iTouch, it beats out iplay4e for not requiring wifi. $5 cost, which is pretty reasonable, especially since they provide solid updates and have gone above what other character sheets do.

Compendium - From the same guys who did i4e comes the compendium. This one is free, iirc, or only $1. It requires your ddi password and connects to the compendium for easy browsing through your mobile device. Does require wifi, so no using it when not on a network if you're using the iTouch.

There are various dicerollers, but most are meh-to-ok. I prefer to roll the real ones if I can. Pick whichever interests you the most. I use TRPG Dices....yes, they actually named it dices....sooo lame.


Other things of use:

OneNote for iPod/iPhone is great for campaign tracking, as it stores in the cloud version on windows live. Seems to function slightly better than using google-docs (they really need an app for the googledocs/calendar. The webpage works, but isn't as ideal)

Also, a twitter account with various D&D bloggers and designers is awesome. searching the #dnd hashtag is always great for inspiration.

Well, if they ever decided to work in something besides silverlight, I'm sure they'd put mobile os as their next priority.

Or if WP7 took off, so they could keep working in Silverlight.
Of course, I wiish they would build WP7 apps anyway, but I'm one of the few people that has a WP7 phone.

Too bad I don't have a D&D Insider account! (Mostly because Internet here doesn't justify its use, now that many of the drawing factors - like the Char Builder - are now online use only.)

The initiative tracker looks like something she'll really appreciate. She's usually the one who tracks initiative when she's not the DM and I'm pretty crap at tracking it when she is.

Incidentally, I know that there're a million PDF readers out there, but I'm wondering what you guys use to view your PDFs? I'm currently using Bookman for PDF format and Stanza for ePub.

Goodreader is by far the best PDF-reader for iOS.

Hey- I'm using an iTouch as well, but I'm just using the standard Notes app for my PCs. No problems so far.

Still, this thread deeply intrigues me! Good ideas!
