I've given up on WotC's message boards. What about you?

to be honest, i've NEVER gone to WoTC's message boards.

So, i went there today to see what was going on...

It seemed that everything was locked down, and I found this meassage:

The new date for migrating to upgraded forums is Tuesday evening, July 11th. Accordingly, we will be applying changes to a snapshot made of the database at 6 am PDT, July 9th (9 am EDT/1 pm GMT). Any posts, PMs, and profile changes made between July 9 - 11 will not move to the new forums with us. Please plan accordingly. These posts and the current forums in general will remain available in a read-only archive format through July and August. To discuss these events or ask questions, please use this thread.

I remember Artuic and his shovel. Personally I'm glad he's gone. :p :)

In any case I like it here and here I'll stay.

I got to beat Crothy's post count some time before I'm 80. :p :)

I visit there about once a week, and perhaps once every second or third week I reply to a post that happens to catch my attention. Of course, I only visit this board perhaps three or four times a week (about every other day, sometimes two days in a row if following an interesting thread). I tend to be more of a lurker than a poster anyway - as my post count no doubt shows (although I lost ~200 posts in May).

There are still some occational good posts and even good posters at the WotC boards. The main reason I tend to visit it less often is that any referrence to a third party work is often lost on them. They rarely know what I am speaking about, and even if they do, they tend to ignore or deride the value of the book / pdf simply because it is third party (such as Iron Heroes, Elements of Magic, etc). :\

Of course, there is always the amusing "Ultimate Smilie Thread." I've found all sorts of interesting smilies there. :)

Arturick's stories were pretty funny. Some were downright hilarious. :)

I can't say anything about the man himself though.

I can. He sucks! And I'm glad he's gone! :p

His stories...eh. I prefer Order of the Stick for humor.

Or you Pants. :p :)

I visit both forums. I half lurk, half post regularly.

They both have the same problem of tired, repetitive threads, although the threads do tend to be different. On wotc, if you eliminated threads with titles like, "My favorite class! Why does WOTC hate it so much???" you'd eliminate half the class discussion forum. Here, if you eliminated threads with topics like, "Come, all jaded D&D veterans, to complain about new material and new players and those darn kids on our lawns with their loud music and long hair!!!" you'd eliminate a fair percentage of the forums.

You just have to be picky about which threads you bother to read.

The novels issue is a legal matter, not a Moderator decision.

My understanding is that it was because authors who posted there on their own time, and out of their own sense of goodwill and community, were being trashed by some of the posters, and that is why the novel discussion was banned.

Of course, now that you mention it, I also seem to have a vague recollection that the abuse may have gone further, to outright threats, in which case it would be a legal issue... hm. Now I'm curious if I'm remembering right, or simply imagining things...
