I've given up on WotC's message boards. What about you?

My understanding is that it was because authors who posted there on their own time, and out of their own sense of goodwill and community, were being trashed by some of the posters, and that is why the novel discussion was banned.

Of course, now that you mention it, I also seem to have a vague recollection that the abuse may have gone further, to outright threats, in which case it would be a legal issue... hm. Now I'm curious if I'm remembering right, or simply imagining things...

Considering the childishness of that place, I doubt it drew.

Not that it matters to anyone but ... I have never felt comfortable with folks at EN World dogging another website or forum community. "We're great and they suck" just makes us look like jerks. My opinion only!
Agreed. Also, considering I do admin work on both sites it these sorts of threads really, really irk me.

Since my departure from the Wizard's boards was more to do with the non-response of the Wiz_O's, is there anything particular about the system of moderation they use over there that's different than what's in use here?

Of course, my complaint is years old, so perhaps systems have changed since then; but is there a difference twixt the two?

I have noticed (via lurking) the WizOs are more affirmative about things.
Is this a recent thing? What with my leaving having to do with the fact that the Wiz_O's did nothing even after several requests to do so.

And by affirmative, do you mean they will tell people to stop flaming, or they are quicker to hand out the 3-day and permanent bans?

I visit and post there regularly, however I never venture outside of the Other Worlds boards. Particularly Dark Sun, Greyhawk, Mystara, and Spelljammer. The rest of the WotC boards don't exist as far as I am concerned. If I end up on another WotC Board it is because someone links to a thread there with a recommendation to read it. For instance I followed someone's link to the WotC Epic Board saying the response over there to U_K's Immortals Handbook bestiary was worth reading through... frankly it was worth reading people's response go from ill-informed outrage to skepticism to anticipation for U_K's Ascension book.

So I voted "Other".

Recent for me. I know I had problems but there have been a few changes.

I think a little of both, but mostly they try the "let's settle down or we ban you." approach.

Here's the problem with this... 90% (the statistic being made up on the spot) of the board posters on the WotC forums are very content to sit around, complain about how much WotC sucks, then they turn up their noses at any alternative saying 'I want official.'

It's really kinda weird.

You, sir, are a genius. My cousins are like that, "Wizards of the Coasts sucks." "You do know that d20 lets other companies create D&D style products, right?" "No way. Official stuff is better." :uhoh:

See this is why I like it here. There's no double standard. If you don't like d20 stuff, no one complains! If you don't like WotC, but like d20 stuff, then no one complains either. It's all good! :)
