I've given up on WotC's message boards. What about you?

Are you visiting Wizards of the Coast's Message Boards?

I visit mostly for the Eberron boards and anything that Keith Baker writes, but as he has slowed down his participation on the boards, I find myself going there less often. I will occassionally peek into other areas, but the tone and attitude just doesn't fit me very well.

Do you visit Wizards' boards? Why are you, or are you not?

I did for a time but stopped ages ago. Nothing interesting is ever discussed over there and it strikes me that the majority of the posters there are "full of themselves" Wizard fanboys. Not the sort of place I want to discuss D&D.

I hit the Future Releases board quite often - though it's tiresome wading through "Do an ecology book on Fey/Giants/Animals!" and the like, it attracts "newshounds" and concentrates their efforts in a single place, which is useful to me since I'm the "newshound" for my gaming society.

I also hit Eberron General, though I guess that will be less important now that Keith Baker is done with "Ask Keith Baker" threads. Not that I'm sad to see him concentrating on Dragonshards and Eberron Expanded!

Apart from those, I also read the other Eberron forums, Deities and the Planes, and once in a blue moon hit Psionics, Oriental Adventures, the Mature forums, and the Forgotten Realms General for their "Ask the authors" threads.

Am an occasional poster there. I used to really enjoy and get a lot of use out of some of the dedicated forums (like OA and Psionics), and some of their play-by-post forum guidelines have some really cool advice.

I don't go there so much these days. Some forums I used to enjoy have really devolved. I find the Psionics forum, in particular, to be a disappointment these days. The fans over there have developed such a fortress mentality that when Complete Psionic came out and actually fixed a lot of the broken stuff with psionics, the "old guard" over there were so invested in their defensive mantra that they disclaimed it.

That said, I can't really say that it's the only forum that has disappointed me of late. This forum (meaning, precisely, the general forum of ENWorld) is a prime example. I hate how it has turned into a perpetual sounding board for those who feel the need to tear down the game.

This will come as no surprise to most, but I am a regular and frequent poster on the WotC Boards. I am also a fan of the company, its product, and its employees. I can easily see how someone might view me in the light some on this thread have used to describe WotC posters. However...

I also find that the ENWorld, Nifty, GiantITP and other Boards are *identical* in the nature of their regular and frequent posters. The primary difference is that at the WotC Boards, opinions against WotC are generally viewed with disdain, while at the other Boards, opinions in support of WotC are generally viewed with disdain.

The monster rarely sees a monster in the mirror.

^^^ And this, ladies and gents, is why a thread like this is a bad idea. It's impossible to compare the two without someone feeling insulted.

Plus it really is comparing apples and oranges. They never would be able to get away with some of the moderation techniques used here; likewise, we would have to resort to a very different set of rules if we had the sheer amount of posters they do, etc.

Yikes! Me too... Personally, I am usualy over in the House Rules area of their boards, since I am always looking for new ideas.
Here's the problem with this... 90% (the statistic being made up on the spot) of the board posters on the WotC forums are very content to sit around, complain about how much WotC sucks, then they turn up their noses at any alternative saying 'I want official.'

It's really kinda weird.

See, I really don't see that. There are so many anti-WotC opinions over there that I can't even begin to see that as true, or maybe it's just because a few of the more vocal members spend their time doing nothing but ratting on them, but I sure don't see opinions against them as being viewed with disdain.

Everyone has message boards and they are becoming 'focused' on their products, my interest seem to be a bit more broad, they are fine for reseach but not generalization.

Other: I've been a time or three and am not adverse to going there if I felt I could get a better answer there. I have limited time for message boards and gaming so I choose fora that are a bit more diverse in their gaming focus, not just WOTC products.

I occasionally pop over and look at the Eberron and regular D&D boards.

I completely understand why katana threads were banned. The katana thread glut over there was a hundred times worse than the "OMGZORZ DEMON PRINCES ARE WEAK AND STUPIDZ!" "OMG THEIR TOTALLY NOT DUMB-HEAD PERSON LOL!" over here. *

And yeah, the Eberron brownshirts are a pain, but I like the WotC forums in general, I just don't get around there much anymore.

*Not serious, here.
