I've never played a Wizard, so I have questions

If you do go that route, then all the more reason not to take a SR bypassing feat. If your offensive spells don't allow SR anyway, what's the point?

IMO, Ray of Enfeeblement is the only truly outstanding necromancy spell at 6th level and below. False Life is quite good, as are Blindness/Deafness, Enervation and Magic Jar (a high risk, high payoff spell). Command Undead is highly situational - awesome against mindless undead, useless otherwise.

If efficency is the prime concern I'd say Illusion is a better school to keep than Necromancy.
