Jericho canceled (again)

Or SCI-FI picks it up and orders more episodes for a new season. Many are hoping.

And, considering that BSG is ending in the not-too-distant future, it might make some sense to have another show with an established fanbase come to the network. So, it isn't a completely illogical hope.

If that happens, I would be tempted to go back and look at the show again and see if it were worth watching.

Clearly CBS is owned by Jennings & Rall. :\

Liked the last episode a lot. The ending was about as satisfying as it could be under the circumstances.

A big "ditto" from me.

I'm happy that they gave us more, and I'm happy that they respected the fans enough to give us a decent ending. And I was happy enough with the ending, indeed. That was a great episode, all things considered.

NEWS!

I just heard from an insider that Jericho may be getting the same deal that Friday Night Lights got from Direct TV, but from Comcast.

The Friday Night Lights deal is:

DirecTV will help defray NBC’s production costs and in exchange will receive the right to show “Friday Night Lights” first. The show will have its debut on DirecTV on Oct. 1. It will move to NBC sometime after the Super Bowl in early 2009. Mr. Shanks said DirecTV hoped to sign up “tens of thousands of subscribers” through the partnership. “If fans are passionate enough to ditch cable and come to DirecTV, we can help keep shows alive,” Mr. Shanks said.

This article mentions the Friday Night Lights thing and a rumor concerning Jericho. This rumor in this post is not from that article, but from someone else (in person).

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/07/business/media/07direct.html?ref=media

This source said that as part of their deal for Friday Night Lights, DTV will air new episodes 4 months before NBC can rebroadcast them, and to make this work, they will need a handful of shows that fit this model, shows that have a big enough fan base to boost subscriptions, but not big enough to drive ratings.

The source said Jericho is getting picked up not by DTV, but by Comcast in response to DTVs Friday Night Lights deal (which they view as a threat). Source said that cable giant Comcast decided to set up a similar deal, where they would help budget shows in exchange for having first-airing rights as part of their video-on-demand service. The are picking up Jericho as part of that bid.

I hope the rumor(s) are correct, though I do not have Comcast. I don't care...if they make more episodes, I can wait to watch them on regular TV later.

But which major on-air network will pick it up (not counting CBS)?

Same one it was always with. ComCast just subsidizes the show, so that the budget is suddenly justifiable again.

But we don't have ComCast anymore, we have DirecTV.

Maybe we can get ComCast to trade Jericho for Friday Night Lights and a show to be named later. :)
