Jim Carrey to be Six Million Dollar Man

The movie is probably poorly titled - it wouldn't surprise me if he personally gets twice that amount to make the movie. :)

Jim Carrey is to play the lead in the Six Million Dollar Man remake to the big screen! Jim is a fine actor BUT...
He's no Jake Foley (Jake 2.0).

Almost every 70's show is being resurrected for the big screen ... as a comedy. That includes Starsky & Hutch (featuring Zoolander's Ben Stiller). At least they did right by S.W.A.T.

Personally, they should resurrect an even older show now that the climate is right. I'm talking about The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Jim Carrey should rename his movie The Six Trillion Dollar Deficit Man.

I would consider the 2002 (?) Charlies Angels movie to be a comedy... in that it seemed like it was trying to be campy.

Perhaps they meant something along those same lines for 6M$M ?

Still, I really can't see JC (that's Jim Carey, not Jesus Christ) in this role... doesn't seem to have the build for it ...

just my two cents anyway.

Well, I didn't make Charlie's Angel an exception in my statement above, but at least they pulled that one well. I mean, it could have been worse. They could've used supermodels who are trying to be legitimate actresses (e.g., Cindy Crawford, Kathy Ireland, Heidi Klum, etc.). Drew, Lucy, and Cameron were right for the roles, however changed from the original TV series premise (all three girls were supposedly rookie cops).

Try as I might, Jim is no Steve Austin (the character, not the WWE wrestler).

Just figured out the other part of what I was trying to say ....

Jim C. is an "emotions through face" sort of actor -- in that, much of his expression and reaction is all done through his face. The 6M$M role would not suit him since for action sequences and such it would have to be a wide shot to see the whole scene/action -- thus, from a casting stand point (regardless what I think of JC and even pretend that he worked out a lot before the shooting began) this is simply not the type of role that would suit his current acting style (of expression through the face).

:)

(okay, that's still not _exactly_ what I'm trying to say, but the sentiment is in there sure enough).

Bottom line that i think everyone on here has agreed to, this really wouldn't make a good choice. If it really even is anything beyond hearsay or publicity, I'm surprised it's even being considered.

I couldn't care less if Jim is in the 6M$M since I won't be watching that one. I just hope this ties up his shedule and keeps him out of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Carrey as Zaphod - ummm ... no!

But there are some of us oldtimers that have been fans of that old TV show, and would prefer that the new remake would be done right.

I heard it was being done as a comedy. So those of you that wanted $6 mill. man done straight, you are SOL.

Hmmm...I wonder if they will get Uma Thurman to be the $6 mill. woman? With a samurai sword...drool... :)

Well, it's a shame that another piece of tripe is getting made.

But I will defend Jim Carrey.

The man has some serious acting talent, the only problem is that he isn't often given a chance to actually stretch it. His more serious work (Majestic, Man on the Moon, Truman Show) is pretty good, his only problem being that he tends to overact a little - a consequence of having to do that for all of his low-brow comedic roles. Additionally, he was by far the best part of Batman Forever, and Liar, Liar is a great piece of physical comedy which I feel only he could have pulled off. I think his agent really needs to work harder at trying to get him some more serious roles, because IMO he's proved he can do them, and do them well, he just needs the chance to do more and refine his talent in that area.

JC's next movie coming out is Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events in 2004, in which he plays Count Olaf (www.imdb.com). Can't comment on the casting choice, as I have no familiarity with Lemony Snicket.
