Ah, yes, cantrips.

Gotcha. :D

See, all the posts saying, "So, you rolled poor stats? Just play very badly until you die and roll again!" are the greatest argument against rolling stats I have ever heard.
On the other hand I see it as a demonstration of the difference between players interested in a character for the characters sake and players interested in a character that will dominate or "win". JMO.

It does allow me to also point out that while I heartily prefer rolling stats, to roll stats without a reasonable threshold for re-rolls (including DM fiat as reasonable) is a poor idea. Rolling stats DOES have its limitations that need to be dealt with, not ignored. But I still prefer rolling.

Just make a wizard or sorc, carry a dagger and try to melee everything. Volunteer to go in the front all the time.

Call him Redshirt Number 3.
That actually gives me the desire to create a native American type of barbarian character and name him Ace Redshirt with replacements as needed being named Deuce Redshirt, Trinity Redshirt, Quattro Redshirt, Cinco Redshirt...

Coming in second level, can anyone recomend me a class for a human based on what I have to work with?
If I ever had bad stats like that, my plan was always to play a former sailor (Rogue) who'd been pressganged and was finally free. I'd load up my skill list with some of the rarer skills and just see what happens:
Prof: Sailor
Swim
Balance (working up in the rigging)
Climb
Use Rope (knows every knot and splice every devised)
Escape Artist (buggery avoidance techniques)
Sleight of Hand (maybe he served on the boat as a prison sentence)

Anyway, the guy would definately be played as not a hero. Just an average guy trying to make some money while staying alive. Always thought that would be fun to play.

In terms of guaranteeing that you're an asset for the party, though, the Bard and Druid ideas are probably the best ones.
