Jonathan Tweet On His Variant Cleric

Yeah, I'm kind of confused too, it does sound like 3e. I probably should have re-read this. Mods, feel free to dump this thread.

That post by Johnathan Tweet left me very confused. It seems to contradict some of what I thought we knew about clerics and spell levels (and I don't mean his new variant powers which are clearly different from the standard rules). I thought that spell levels were going to match character level, but the post suggests a standard cleric would just be going from fifth level spells to sixth level spells when advancing to 11th level. Maybe there is more to the character that we don't know about, such as multiclassing, which is slowing down spell progression? Or did WOTC change their minds and go back to one spell level per two character levels in advancement?

Also, Tweet mentions the cleric doesn't get to use his attack power because he is too busy healing, but I thought clerics were not going to have to use up all their actions on healing now.

Its definitely 3e (he's referencing replacing 6th level spells at 11th level, which doesn't sound like the 4e mechanics at all). Its also kinda funny, since he was involved in 3e, but finds high level spells confusing.

As I was reading I thought it might be 3e instead, but the post talks about per encounter and per day abilities.
And what it says about them is that all of his cleric's by-the-book abilities are per-day, and he wanted to add a per-encounter power to the mix.

It's most definitely a 3e cleric being houseruled in a way that might or might not faintly resemble 4e clerics in some way.
