Jubilex weaker than a Balor?

There's a bit in the Elric Saga where he's just killed the Burning God in Nadsokor, yet balks at killing a demon, telling Moonglum

"That was a weak god. This is a strong Demon."

Aren't the Balor's sword and whip supernatural abilities? I.E. Can't he just reform them with a standard action?

The sword is SU, the whip is EX.

However, it says nothing about creating or forming these as SU or EX abilities: just using them.

If they get destroyed, it is not much different than destroying a Cleric's Holy Symbol. Basically, the items are focuses for these abilities. Without the focus, no ability (i.e. the demon cannot chop off a head without using the sword and cannot entangle without using the whip).

I think part of the goal is to have Juiblex and some of the other demons be bindable with the aid of a Gate Spell. Sure the Balor is nice but think of how jealous the other conjurers will be when you use Juiblex as engine of destruction.

I'm not saying I would personally use Juiblex as written (I think I'd likely borrow the stats of Azathoth from D20 CoC instead) but I can definitely see the appeal of using a Demon Lord or Prince as your slave.

I figure I'll probably advance them all into the CR 25-30 range (Great Wyrm range) and layer on some divine salient abilities from Deities and Demigods to reflect additional powers they have on thier home plane.

Ooh, good point. Foolish players trying to do this sort of thing is *always* good for a wild game.

description of the Gate spell said:
Deities and unique beings are under no compulsion to come through the gate, though they may do so of their own accord.
<snip>
Deities and unique beings cannot be controlled in any event.
I can see it now. The party barges into the inner sanctum of Demogorgon, who advances upon them tentacles writhing. But the wizard fears not, for the knowledge of the Gate spell is his! His hands move through the arcane passes, and from the gate steps none other than Orcus himself, ready for battle. Orcus takes the merest glance at his caller, then gazes across the chamber at the demon prince with whom he has been commanded to do battle, and, in a voice most terrible, utters these syllables: "Dibs on the wizard." :lol:
