Judgement Day: EVIL (Good stay out)

"Our host intends this to be a test of our abilities, I imagine. The conquest of a mundane city would be far too easy a test, if there were not more to it than appearance betrays."

"At any rate, razing the city to the ground is hardly conquest."

"Consider this: Why this city? If Vorasin's forces are as mobile as that crystal would indicate, why would he choose this city to conqueor? Is there something there of significance? If so we should find out."

"With our resources, it should be relatively easy to get an assessment of their forces and what actions should be neccessary. We should do this with the least force possible. Remember, Vorasin has declared war on the people of the good lands, sooner or later we are going to face their champions. When that happens I would prefer they know as little about our capabilities as possible."

"Now does anyone know anything about this city? Who the rulers are, what kind of fortifications they have, what kind of troop strength they could support?"

There is a moment of silence while those gathered ponder the questions of Harkuf.

Gwyneth recalls that Maleign is the capital city of the powerful empire Flynn, made up mostly of Humans and Halflings, though all of the 'humanoid' races are welcomed. The place swarms with Paladins, Clerics, and Monks. It is considered a Holy City by most, and this is backed by the fact that the Main Church of Holy Fire is located there, a temple unique in the fact that it has been consecrated by all of the Goodly Gods. The High Priestess is a powerful halfling named Alise, and the captain of the guard is Sir Jonathon, a Holy Knight of Andre.
The city is ruled by a council of 7 'equals', amongst them Alise and Sir Jonathon. The others are mainly mages and politicians of little import. The city sports an impressive mages tower which is off limits to all non-members. It has succsessfully repelled every attack on it in recorded history, since it was taken from it's evil overlords... though Gwyneth knows that the invasion of the city by Undead several centuries ago was never recorded.. because nobody survived, and so when the Flynnish arrived to claim it, they thought it had been built by the undead, though it was in fact built by angels and dwarves for reasons lost to the ages.
(Damn your high Knowledge checks... no more info for you until my next post. ;) )

Aethan knows little other than the presence of Alise, who has been a thorn in the Dark Lord's side for centuries.. Her very essence is infused with holy power, making her ageless despite her mortal existance. The destruction of her church.. or more appropriately HER, would please Jemal to no end.

As Alosat thinks on it, he remembers a story he once heard of a Halfling preistess who burnt and banished the 'dark Lord of the dead' from her city in the empire 'Finn', and proceeded to defend it for the rest of eternity from evil beings. The name of the place could have changed. (Nat 20 on Religion AND history checks.. *L* so I gave ya something special)

Unfortunately, Harkuff himself knows only that the city is the capital of the human Empire "Flynn"

OOC: Wether you share this info or not is up to you IC. Don't assume your character knows anything posted here unless it was by your name.

OOC: Little confused here. Is Flynn the name of the continent, the capital city of the continent, or both? Also, how far is Flynn from Maleign?

Alosat said:
"You have all received something like this from our generous host, yes? An interesting bit of magic. Teleportation on this kind of scale must have cost him a fortune."

"Indeed. Though as of yet we have been given little information as to what it does; save that it summons a large force for an indefinite period of time."

"Any city worth the effort of sending the four of us to conquer is certain to have both significant mundane and magical defenses. I suspect that as much as Lord Vorasin may want the city captured he is at least as interested, if not more so, in how we capture it."

A little suprised that everyone who is expected has been gathered but that there has been no word yet from Lord Vorasin or any of his commanders Aethan reaches out and telekinetically pulls the bellpull near the main entrance to the dining room.

When one of the castle pages responds, he tells the page "Please see that Lord Vorasin is aware that we are assembled and await his leisure. Also, when we have finished our audience with him we will access to maps of the area surrounding the city of Maleign on the continent of Flynn on the material plane. See to it that they are made available."

"I have heard of the city of Flynn," Gwynneth comments. "It's well-protected and to the weak of you, it may be risking your sentient existences. It is a holy city and protected by a holy order. But I assume that you all of course knew that, since you're here."

"I like my sentient existence unrisked, myself. And I, at least, have little knowledge of this city. Well, other than this child's tale I heard regarding some halfling priestess banishing the, quote, 'dark lord of the dead'..."

Alosat says this dismissively, but one of the eyes on his Robe of Eyes surreptitiously trains itself on Aethan, looking for a reaction of any kind.

[sense motive +56, spot +24]

Aethan nods slightly at Alosat's comment. "That would make sense. The Dark Lord is most, displeased, with the halfling priestess."

The page returns after sending his message to Lord Vorasin. He looks to the generals around the table. "Lord Vorasin says he is tied up at the moment, but you are free to do whatever is nessecary to accoplish your orders." With that, the page drops off a bunch of maps from the area and leaves. When the maps are studied, they reveal that the city is in a mountain range surrounded by plains, with one side to the oceon. other than that, there are no specifics on the terrain, since the good forces have kept most of it a secret.
OOC: Flynn is the continent, Maleign is the city.

Harkuf smiles at the lack of information, If Vorasin has so little information about the city, how does he know the size of the army? It seems the feeling of being tested is not without merit. Interesting that Vorasin does not wish to meet with us, I think there is a deeper mystery there.

He strokes his chin for a moment, "So this halfling rules the city and this temple seems to be the reason for our attack on the city. I would still suggest we gather more information."

"Our general lack of information here would imply that scrying is somehow blocked, but by all means we should try. Does anyone else know anything about this city?"
