ooc: I am here, haven't gotten too much to say, but if we want action, action it is.

"I suggest we gather what information we can and meet again here tomorrow, to make judgement based on acurate intelligence."

With that, Harkuf planeshifts to his own private dimension where he uses his Mirror of Mental Prowess to scry on the closest spot he know to the city. He then "walks" the point of view up by refocusing the mirror at the limits of what he can see until he can get an ariel view, then he will refocus the mirror accross the unobstructed sky until he can see Maleign.

He will determine what he can from that view (better layout of the city etc.) and then he will narrow in the focus to about 300 feet away from the wall in a secluded area. He will cast Greater Invisibility on himself and open a portal to the area he is scrying.

Stepping through he will approach the wall until he is about 130 feet away. He will watch the walls for a time, looking for one of the common soldiers or seargants and will cast Mind Rape on them (DC 37). He will make the soldier forget that he was effected and then return to the portal, back to his own dimension and close the mirror.

Since Mind Rape allows Harkuf to know everything the soldier does, I am assuming that will give him access to all the commonly know information in the city. Since he is a soldier, he should have some idea of the chain of command. If we are lucky he may have information on and special defenses they have. Rumors would be nice as well.

If I cannot convince them... then sobeit.

Alosat gets up and leaves. Once he is outside, he does the following:

1. Use Epic Bluff (+53 after modifiers, take 20) to display false alignment: Neutral Good.
2. Shapechange into a Dream Vestige (Lib Mor) and use its Dream Travel to arrive outside Maleign (far enough away to not be seen).

note: This ability should be similiar to the epic spell Dreamscape, except he always know exactly where he come out. 1d4 hours to cross planar boundaries, 1 minute/5 miles travelling in-plane.

3. Once there, Alosat Shapechanges into his favored combat/subtefuge form: Gloom. Use Infinite Variety to acquire the Adrenaline Rush Ex ability from Sarkrith Thane (Fiend Folio).

4. Disguise himself (48, +10 Shapechange bonus, take 20 = 78) to look like an average, uninteresting human. Hood his eyes to negate the Gloom's Fear Gaze ability, and similiarly lower his Quiescence ability.

5. set off in the direction of the city at a walk.

Alright, Harkuf gets to the city, but realizes a problem when he gets there. The city isn't a clearly designed walls around a set of buildings style place. Instead, the city seems to be built directly into the mountains. A series of guarded gates seems to be the only way to access it. As he gets even closer, he notices that the landscape is also dotted with towers manned with gaurds. The guards operate in groups of threes. He will also notice that one of the guards in each group is wearing a robe of eyes (you roll a 2 on your intelligence check and realize if they look your way they will see you). Your move.

Alosat walks along for a few miles and comes to a checkpoint in the road. Three guards are manning this checkpoint. There is a small crowd of people being sent back towards the three towns closest to the city. Your move.

Alosat walks up to the guards and greets them jovially. If asked, he tells them that he is but a simple pilgrim. If they stop him, he asks them why.

Also, he takes this time to size up the guards, trying to see their relative strength.

[Sense Motive 56, Assess Opponent (Complete Adventurer)]

[ooc: a common guard is wearing a 120,000gp item?!]

[ooc2: take it from him! first lewt!]

[ooc3: is any of the guards Alosat is facing wearing the same?]

Harkuf struggles to remember what he knows about the item the guard is wearing True Sight has a range 120 feet, should be okay at maximum range even if it has true seeing. Detects only have a range of 60 feet... unless it operates on the line of sight principle.

Harkuf sneak up to 140 feet and casts the spell targetting the guard wearing the cloak of eyes. If he is seen he will still cast Mind Rape, erasing having seen him from the guards mind and placing the memory of having seen a glimmer of something on the other side of the tower.

Aethan the Nighthaunt, Servant of Jemal

/ooc: Well, that's a bit more activity a bit faster than I was expecting, but that's ok we'll run with it. :p

Aethan nods in agreement to return in 24 hours to discuss what each has learned. With that, he exits the keep and gates back to Nerezzo.

Collecting a few of his troops, he moves them through the gate to the ruins inland of Arbosh.
After checking the wards about the ruins (Widened Unhallow, Targeted against any non-NE creature. The Unhallowed area is surrounded by an Empowered Maximized Forbiddance)

From there he dons his Ring of Sequestering and flies to Arbosh (Given that he's immune to fatigue, his best speed is 24mph, so he should be there in 4 hours). Once there he drifts about for an hour or two, listening to conversations among the traders particularly to those who have been coming and going from Maleign.

Harkuf casts his spell and realizes that it does not have the intended affect. In fact, he himself is forced to make a will save to it (the result of which doesn't matter since the gaurd wouldn't know how to use a mind rape in the first place). The guard wearing the robe draws as longbow and one of his other companions draws a greatsword, but they do not look out towards your direction until the third one casts Mordenkainen's Disjunction on you and nullifies your protective spells. This gaurd calls out to Harkuf, "Foul creature, you have but one warning. Leave this place or be destroyed."

OOC: You got spell turned.

Aethan learns from his information gathering at Arbosh that the people there have been banned from approaching the larger city for some time now. They have family and loved ones over there, but nobody, not even traders, have been allowed in or out of the checkpoints.
