Jumping while Charging?

allowing a jump in a charge does add flavor to the game and is very cool but the rules doesnt allow it unless you have the feat for it.
There is no difference from jumping up and forward then running around the table then going on your way to the target. Neither is a straight line but this game is all about having fun :)

This exact problem recently came up in one of my games. The character in question was a barbarian on a bluff 20' off the ground. A gnoll archer was across a 10' gap on nearby bluff. The barbarian chose to run, jump and then wondered if he could combine it with a charge. I wasn't sure, so I said make your jump and I'll start looking.

He rolled a natural 20.

I decided that was good enough for me and I let him carry thru into a charge. Unfortunately, he followed up that amazing jump with a natural 1 on his attack making it a moot point.

I told them I'd look into it, and viola, here's this thread.

While I personally agree with the spirit of letting Jump and/or Tumble checks happen as part of a Charge, but RAW, you cannot do it. It is a class ability, for Swashbuckler and the Thief-Acrobat PrC (as two slightly different versions, with the Thief-Acrobat version the better).

Let's pull out the RAW quotes:

Run
You can run as a full-round action. (If you do, you do not also get a 5-foot step.) When you run, you can move up to four times your speed in a straight line (or three times your speed if you're in heavy armor)

CHARGE
Charging is a special full-round action that allows you to move up to twice your speed and attack during the action.

Is anyone going to argue that you cannot jump while running? (Note that jumping during a run would not decrease the total movement allowed, for the "momentum" argument).

i simply havent allowed in my games for two reasons that have been mentioned here already. One, the charge is a full round attack action and the jump skill is used as part of your movement action (which you arent technically taking since you are using a full round attack action). Two, I feel similar to an earlier poster that this ability is reserved for classes like the swashbuckler that receive that class ability as part of their kit. But people will do what they want. Good luck people. Play well!
