Thieves' World: First Blood. I somehow missed the series the first time around. So far, it's a bit underwhelming compared to the hype.

I've still got several more stories in the Thieves' World portion and all of the Tales from the Vulgar Unicorn half, so it may pick up.

The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss. It is excellent so far.

The 2nd Takeshi Kovacs novel by Richard Morgan (after devouring the 1st one). Somehow I missed these when they were new and buzzed about.

 

[Lazybones]

The Cobra series by Timothy Zahn. Surgically-enhanced super-soldiers with implanted weapons on the galactic frontier.

 

[Crothian]

Recently finished Directive 51 and One Second After, two novels that offer modern day apocalypses for the US that can in theory happen today. They (the authors) did a lot of research it seems to get the since right, but seemed to fail to get the psychology right. People acted in ways to make an interesting story and fuel the plot. It would be interesting to see research in one of these books on how people might actually react should this happen.

Oh yeah. By the third book I wouldn't have been surprised if he'd gotten double sleeved and, well, *cough*

Fun books, and interesting tech, but the endings always felt a little underwhelming.
