Just Always Wondered

Let's see. . . a long long time ago, in a galaxy far away (known as Dearborn, Michigan), a friend of mine in theater class said, "Have you ever heard of D&D?" Of course, I hadn't, and she convinced me to join in on a game - she was the DM and one of her players was going to be missing a game. The absent player said I could play her char while she was gone, so that I wouldn't even have to invest in creating a character if it turned out I didn't like the game.
And now, here we are. . . umm... lemme see. . .that would have been '88? Round about.
Off in college, I discovered IRC and accidently created my own free form RP channel (#dragonsinn - I didn't even mean for it to be a place where people acted in character, but, I guess the name just invited it, so, I went along with it). I found ISRP on Wizards long ago. It went away for a while, so, I hung on another chat and united some folks there to get together and bug the operators to create a couple permanent free form rp rooms. Then, I discovered ISRP was back up on Wizards. And, so, I went back there.
I don't even remember who my first character was. I've had some fun ones. And I have spent way too many hours of my life typing away, pretending to be other people. The characters in my brain would overtake the world if I didn't let them out somewhere.

Oh, and just as a side not - my hubby has been gaming even longer than I have. He doesn't ISRP anymore, 'cause his fav chars can't come to the tavern, but, he was never as into it as me, anyway. But, he started gaming when he was about 4 years old, in 1979. And, no, it wasn't a simple made for the kid campaign, either. It was a regular campaign, where the other players were adults. D&D is like a second language to him (sometimes, some may wonder if it's not his native language), so, my friends and I have a walking, talking D&D encycolopedia. Quite fun.

Oi. That far back, eh? Humm..
Well, I came across it like many others, a friend brushed it by me. She introduced me into D&D and plunked the Wizards addy in my lap and told me to be in the chat at a specific time. At first, I had no idea what was going on or the point of it all. She insisted I continue to try and learn the chat commands and pick up on the rules and regulations. Only because she was so adamant on the site did I continue to try and develope my story and typing skills. I have the ISRP to thank for high college marks in typing, essay writing, and lengthy descriptions of people, by the way! :p
Anyway, I can't remember my first character, as it was a long time ago. I shifted and bounced from name to name for the first year, there, trying to find what I was good at rp'ing. At first I was 13 and rp'ed for two years until 15. I took a year and then some break and returned when 17. It was sketchy on 'n off when I was 16, as I was enjoying the best years of my life. I haven't a lot of years like most people, but I'm proud to call myself an ISRP'er today.

I wasinvited to a buddies house to play DND. I thought I would hate DND, I mean it's for nerds right? Well after giving it a shot, I fell in love, but there were many things that I did not understand about the game so I figured I would search for DND chat. Well what I got was Wizards chat ISRP. I had no idea what ISRP was I figured it was some in game term that was foreign to me. So I made a name and entered the CRT. A few kind hearted souls yelled er explained to me that I need a dessie and what it was all about, and I fell in love.

*hugs the old feeling Morty*

You're only as young as you feel!

Wow, that's an amazing response for me being nosy

It seems to be quite divided, either a friend or general seraching out of interest, with a few rare people just happening by ISRP by accident, so far! :)

Personally, you can all blame Antimus' player for me being here. He doesn't mind being blamed, he can handle it, he's a man *chokes up* ...a manly man! ...

*giggles into her hands*

Another question I suppose to be posed then, is, do you all still enjoy it? Aside from all the little niggly things, like 'oooh such and such does this' and whatnot. Do you still enjoy coming here (even applies to those not as old as Mortonia feels :p) and roleplaying, hanging out with people who in some relating factor, have shaped your view of the world?

I know I do!

I had a few hairy moments between then and now, don't get me wrong. When I finished Uni I thought I'd give it up, for about half a year (since august going back) or more I was almost MIA from ISRP. (Lookit, I can play with acronyms!) But I do enjoy it and constantly making new friends on ISRP has always kept me coming back, as well as the vast and beautiful array of old faces :)

...er... not that you're old, Morty...

...

*hugs?*

Well lets see, when i was about 15 i was working in the reciving department at a store unloading trucks and breaking down pallets of stuff and found out the crew i worked with all played this thing called Pladium Fantasy RPG, ended up gaming with them my first time and loved it. soon there after i got into playing other games with them like Rifts, Werewolf, Cyber Punk...2nd Ed D&D, then on to 3rd Ed D&D. By the time i was about 21 i came across the D&D ISRP by chance of searching the site and played once and ended up loosing internet for a long time. :( but then when i got it back i came back on to catch the tail end before the big move and here i am.

I still love it. Like you, I've had a couple times when I've more or less vanished from that or this site, but I always come back. It's ISRP... it's better than any drug you care to pick.

For myself, I do enjoy it. Roleplaying is an addiction I've never been able to shake. I've always been a helpless romantic and I love fantasy. I can lose myself for days in daydreaming and just drawing random worlds on paper. I doubt I'll ever be so old I won't play.

*hugs da Bhryn back*
