JUST BOUGHT KEEP ON THE SHADOWFELL FROM BARNES & NOBLES

Hi everybody, I was at B&N this morning buying a wedding gift for my friend and to my surprise KotS was on shelves. I thought it wasn't being sold until the 20th. I nabbed a copy immediately. Unfortunately, I don't have time to read it because I have to go to a wedding at noon. -sigh-

Ditto.

I mean have whoever you are going with to the wedding drive and read in the car. For bonus points sneak the adventure in and read it during the boring parts of the wedding(ie the whole dang thing since it aint your wedding)

On a side note picking up a wedding gift the day of the wedding, awesome I thought only I procrastinated that much.

I think that it would be noble and fair of WotC to post a memo on their website saying that ALL stores are allowed to sell the stock they have availible.

After all our FLGS should not suffer just because corporate big box stores breach contract without fear.

/Just a humble opinion
//I'm sure there could be flaws in my plan

Breach would depend on if SotK has a hard or soft release. Hard releases cannot be sold until the date specified while soft releases can be sold as soon as the store receives them. If it has a soft release then B&N just lucked out and got their shipment out before others. Most FLGS have to wait for distributors to get them the product before selling it; the distributor taking FLGS in order where as B&N are their own distributor and only ship to themselves and their subsidiaries.

I cannot imagine KotS NOT having a lay down date (aka hard release). Most of the time books with lay down dates are shipped in very clearly marked boxes from the distributor and the store's staff won't bother to open them up until Monday night (books generally are released on Tuesdays to generate mid-week sales). I wouldn't be shocked to see KotS on the shelf after 8pm on Monday at your local Borders/B&N, but I'm betting this store will get dinged. Of course, it's not entirely fair to your local FLGS since a "ding" to the small guy is a much more serious hit to their bottom line while for the chain retailer there is almost no impact on the store level (unless you do something with Harry Potter releases, then you're boiled in lye).

I have a friend who works for Waldens, I'll ask him to check on it and see if it has a hard or soft release. If it is hard release the box will have the date on it as you mentioned. I'll try to get back asap if someone doesn't beat me to it.
