Just checking... how many times have your players died?

Let's see. I have had two characters die this year of the five that I have ran. Masric, a 5th level Hexblade, met his doom in the Underdark against a piece of crap spider with 15' reach. Brioden, a 3rd level fighter took a dirt nap by a well that sprouted a dracolich type being. I still don't know what the hell it was but I think we were slightly overmatched there.

Bresden, my current mage, died but was brought back to life at a serious expense to himself and the party cleric. I am glad he lived; I think his story is important and needs to be heard.

I had a long run of PC invulnerability; I didn't lose a character until this year. But I'm on my third PC in the Eberron game I play in, which has been kind of deadly. One original PC is still with us in his original body; one died, became a ghost, and has lately gotten herself inserted into a new body; one guy is on his second PC (and has had a few near-misses or he'd be on his third); and I'm on my third (and only a few near-misses from being on my fourth).

Let's see ... two deaths last session, and a total of 12 deaths in 48 sessions for this campaign.

'Course, we have two house rules that make death less likely: (1) death at -Con, and (2) Hero Points (one point per level that can be used to guarantee success on a roll, or stabilize a dying character, etc). The hero points in particular have turned 3-4 deaths into mere near-death experiences. So the campaign is probably at least 30-50% more lethal in standard D&D terms.

that's only cuz the cleric pc has been absent for a good portion of the last year. CdG on guard duty....

Edit: That's PC deaths, of course. To answer the original question: one player death (Angelsboi, RIP).

yup. total bummer. :(

I have about a 30% fatality rate in my campaigns over all - though this includes characters who played for many years. It only takes one permanent death no matter how many adventures you survive. The number of adventures survived by all PCs far exceeds the number with fatalities.

Est bodycount: 1 anti-paladin (sacrificed himself for the "greater evil"), 1 barbarian, 4 clerics, 2 druids, 9 fighters, 3 paladins, 3 wizards, 2 rogues, 1 monk
Also: one family of PCs (slain by the aforementioned "greater evil" later on), two fighters slain and raised by vampires on seperate occasions, a rogue who became a ghoul, one wizard dragged off to Hell, and one rogue banished to Limbo.

Plus a horde of one-off characters who did something stupid and died, becoming shades in a quiet place of Hades where the souls of the forgettable adventurer (anyone with a Roman numeral after their name) go.

Frequently and consistently. :]

Wait, you meant the characters? Oh, I... I didn't say anything... :heh:

If I'm running a game for the express purpose of killing PCs (with certain house rules to make resurrection never cause permanent damage to a character), PC fatalities tend to happen 2-3 times per adventure. TPKs happen once per campaign, IYKWIM. ;)
