Just Curious ... Hom many come from AD&D?

Started with the Red Box, played mostly a basic/AD&D hybrid, tried to play full-on 2e for Spelljammer's sake, moved back to 2e, quit pen-and-paper gaming, returned to the fold with 3.0.

I'm the Old School Hiccup.

I played D&D (OD&D), the holy Three Little Books, back in 1975.

I dropped out of D&D when AD&D hit the racks. Oh, I played AD&D a few times, but I was much more interested in other systems, such as RuneQuest and Ars Magica.

Then I came back with 3e. And didn't convert to 3.5

So I'll probably be gone for a few more incarnations again... ;)

It's all good, though -- it's all about the roleplaying

I won't get into the whole sordid tale, but I came into it all through a friend's ill conceved attempt at a game in grade 6 (1978), to the ill use of the basic set of the next year, and then finally into AD&D, playing games and then campaigns that were steadily more and more role-play.

I did play into 2e, bought several of the splatbooks, and ran a campaign through college and just after ('91) before getting huge into Torg and running a campaign of that for a few years.

It was then that my real life really got in the way and I fell out of P&P RPGs until 3e, which with 3.5 has kept me hooked. With RL of work, house, wife, and child though, my games are about twice a month. Not bad really. Plus I get a lot of my fix through prep.

Started with 2e, just before the reprints (1994). Picked up 3e books just after they came out, even though I didn't have a gaming group at the time; I didn't plan on staying in the city I lived in for very long, so I didn't go looking for a group. Found a 3.0 group shortly after moving to San Diego; the same group has played a d20 Modern game for a while, and just moved to 3.5 with our current campaign.

started with 3.5, the february before last, been LARPing for ages before that and have a sister (and her friends) who are big roleplayers and DnDers and shadowrun.

Started with either the D&D red box set or Fighting Fantasy - they were both about the same time (early 1980s).

Moved on to 1st edition AD&D, but ran out of people to play with. Played a bit of 2nd edition in university (along with what seemed like a bit of every RPG every written - it seemed like everyone had their favourite system which they'd run for a week and then not bother to go back to).

Got a chance to play a 3rd edition game ten years later, and it was like I'd never been away. I am now DM ing a 3.5 game once a week, but True 20 is starting to look very appealing.

OD&D --> blue box --> AD&D

People who started with AD&D are rookies as far as I'm concerned... ;)

My question is: Who is more hard core -- you, or Diaglo? :D I know D. was a wargamer before he was a D&D'er...

My first gaming experiences date back to the month that the first Deities and DemiGods was released, back in 1980. I used to think I started in the late 70s, but, alas, it was 1980.

My first adventures were with the rules that predated AD&D, the rules from 1974. I quickly moved onto the basic set and then the AD&D line. I estimate that I've played roughly 9,500 hours of RPGs in my life, 90% of which was D&D of some sort.

Man, I'm old.
