Just Curious ... Hom many come from AD&D?

Started playing late 1979 and continued with 1e. We never got into 2e. Then marriage, kids, moving, more school, etc. came for all of us and the late 80's was hit and miss. We recently started playing 3/3.5 and are loving it.

Anyway, I was just curious, so please respond and let me know what your background is and how RPG games are crammed into your busy (or not) lifestyle.

Played since the 'three-books-in-a-box + Greyhawk' days. We play once a week and rarely miss more than five or six sessions all year.

  5. Warhammer FRP
  6. AD&D2e
  7. GURPS
  8. Rolemaster
  9. Hârnmaster
  10. Fantasy HERO

  15. a friend's homebrew

& probably a bunch of others I can't think of at the moment.

Over at Dragonsfoot you can find people who still play OAD&D, classic D&D, original D&D, & even 2e.

Started 1977 with OD&D - white box, did play a bit of AD&D after that, but mainly moved onto RuneQuest, Boot Hill, and Call of Cthulhu after 1981 or so, with a side order of Traveller, Metamorphosis Alpha and Western Skirmish. Pretty much stopped RPGing from about 1987 till 2003, except for occasional forays into CoC. Then restarted D&D with 3e and now 3.5. Also started playing BRP CoC again.

AD&D 2e, back in '97 or so I suppose. Still sticking with it (and not switching!), but also considering running older stuff (like OD&D, or maybe a dungeon crawl using 1e rules).

Started around '94 or '95 with AD&D 2e. However living in a remote area in north central Montana, I didn't really have anyone to "mentor" me on what to buy and I remeber the first thing I actually bought was a Spelljammer boxed set. :)

Suffice to say I have come a long way from those days.

Welcome to the boards.

Personally, I did start with AD&D 2e, but that was after 3e came out. I didn't find a group for 3e, and the guys I knew were playing "stuff like that" (meaning RPG's) were playing 2e. I later found(ed) a gaming group to play 3e, and later stopped playing 2e (because the gaming group was unreliable, and frankly, I hated the rules. It's so much worse when you know the successor and have seen how good this could be)

I started in 1982 with the Red basic set (Moldvay?). Moved on to 1E AD&D in '83 and '84 whichn I played until I graduated high school in '88. Switched over to 2E in '89 through '91 while overseas in the Army, I figured I'd just buy another PHB, etc instead of having my parents try and find and ship what I already owned. Turns out the only edition available in the Stars and Stripes Bookstore for the core books was 2E.
In the early nineties took a brief side tour into the Heros/Champions system, but continued to play 2E.
In the mid nineties, I got tired of the D&D system in general and designed my own ruleset for any campaigns I run (where most of my experience to this point is from the GM's chair).
I bought the 3E core books when they first came out. Since then, I've played in hybrid 3.x games.
