just getting into 3rd edtion

Within the three core books, the only "non-optional" rule that absolutely must be changed is to ban the Natural Spell feat.

Also, be aware of the fact that full caster classes (wizard, sorcerer, druid, cleric) are far more powerful than the other classes - the difference between a 3rd edition wizard and fighter is quite a bit bigger than that between a 1st/2nd edition wizard and fighter.

I completely disagree. Just because the monk has two major class features -- moving really fast and having a powerful full attack -- that work completely against each other doesn't mean you should go and dump such awful mechanics on other classes.

Even with Natural Spell, Druid is at best equal to Cleric. (I've said in the past that Wizard is just as strong as CoDzilla at the levels where people commonly say imbalance causes the game to "fall apart" and that with splat books Sorcerer joins their elite company, too. But that's another issue entirely.) Why people feel the need to constantly single out the Druid and Natural Spell as the biggest, badest thing in 3E and pretend it's any worse than a number of other things is possibly the most irritating argument I see about 3E.

first one shot went pretty well not as big a problem as i had aticipated definatly like skill system vrs proficencies feats still a little shaky but not bad the players helped alot lol

It also helps that the core is all available in the SRD online. For example on The Hypertext d20 SRD (v3.5 d20 System Reference Document) :: d20srd.org. (That site also has parts of Unearthed Arcana's rules, which I wouldn't include all per se, but among which you'll find some interesting parts which you might want to include)

Yeah but it lacks the "color" descriptions that would be very, very useful to a new DM or a new player.

I would never recommend using the SRD as a basis for a newbie - too much background and information missing - like none of the illustrations which for combat resolution can be extremely helpful.

And which can cause inflexible thinking as people lose their ability to see beyond fluff.

Two way street there.

Incidentally, I learned to play mainly through use of the SRD.

The pictures and sidebars are definitely not fluff.

The combat section in the PHB contains a ton of truely essential information that newbies without access to it will be struggling with. The pictoral information on charging is very, very useful.

Unlike previous editions - 3.x became a truely "rules oriented" game - which is why there has been so much activity on the "rules section" of discussion boards.

Looking at Mialee will cause your genitalia to shrivel up.

This has been a point of contention with inflexible thinkers for years. I recently completed an experimental assay, N=1356 M=26.55 SD=8.45, p=.024 at the .05 confidence level, which clearly indicated no significant gential shriveledge upon exposure to drawings of the character Mialee. The full report is in review for publication in The Proceedings of the National Academie of Sciences.
There may be another reason for you shriveled genitalia, Dandu.

But what was P?

True. Possibly your maternal parent is at fault.
