Just got Basic D&D!!

i remember that in basic dnd, the rules books said that it was bad manners and insulting to ask npc's their alignment. lawful npcs would react negatively, while chaotic npcs would most likely lie and say they were lawful.

Just wanted to let you know that I love your sig.

I'm gonna go have a bowl of frosted cheerios now. :p

I remember pulling out a copy of the Basic Rules after not playing it for years... I was stunned at the Cleric. I completely forgot that Basic D&D Clerics had to wait until 2nd level before they got any spells!

not to veer too much off .. but i think the alignment language were an attempt to get to the idea of aligned-plane languages.. like how there is Celestial and Abysal in 3e... that sort of thing. It's a language for an aligned-plane. Of course, that isn't how it came across in the originals... but, that is how I like to reflect back and think of it as. :)

As for obtaining basic d&d set, I'm jealous. :P

Long ago (when I thought I would never play D&D again -- I know, perish the thought) the few basic d&d stuffs that I had were tossed out. It was only 6 months later when my group of high school friends started to get into it and once again I was playing (and haven't really stopped the interest since)...

I have some seriously cool stuff left over from my early AD&D years including "monster cards" that had color illustrations on one side to show the players and the monsters stats on the back. I loved those things! I also have some "scratch on" transfers of colored versions of some of the illos in the AD&D MM.

Sadly, the one thing I *wish* I still had was the bag of plastic monsters that Gary Gygax based many of the monsters on. I miss my plastic rust monster. :( All I have left is a bullette.

Anyone have any of this stuff?

Could you post a picture of your Bulette? I want to see if its the same one I remember having back around 1975 or so. Damn, I'm old. :)

Derek, start searching your local dollar stores RIGHT NOW.

Late last year, from a local Dollar Tree Chain store I picked up a bag o' plastic phony dinosaurs. Included were the usual assortment, as well as a plastic bulette, and a plastic rust monster. I was pleasted as punch. (That was a typo, but it looked cool so I left it in there.)

Go! Look! It costs you a dollar! Good Luck!

Very cool! I'll check out the dollar store later. For the life of me I can't remember what else was in that bag. An owlbear? Arrrgh, it was so long ago.

I'll post a pic of the bullette later tonight. Does anyone else remember the other two things I mentioned? How about anyone have sets of those monster cards? I can even scan in a couple.
