Just Got Hit By A Drunk Driver

OMG, glad to hear you're okay.

Double check on everybody in the morning, often times, whiplash won't show up for a while.

BTW, where in the world did this happen?

Worse than whiplash, pinched nerves can show up much later.

I'm so glad that you guys are ok. Make sure that you go see a doctor asap if you have any pains that crop up and photograph any bruising. I hate to have to offer advice like that but if you have to sue his insurance for medical costs then you want to make sure that you bring every possible scrap of evidence to the table. I've seen what happens when people don't. :\

Folks, from what Torm said it sounds to me like He and his were safely secured, and the airbags functioned as they should. Same with the other car. But the drunk was not secured.

Driving under the influence, criminal endangerment, running a red light, not wearing his seat belt. Sounds to me like the perp has a record and could be facing prison time. A good argument for installing tests of dexterity for starting a car. You can't pass the test you don't get to drive.

Just now getting up for the day. A bit sore all over, but I'm feeling better than I did last night, and I apparently got the worst of it in our vehicle (which I don't understand - Oncarou was the one actually in the front passenger seat), so that's good.

TB: From the look of the guy and his car (relatively new, probably still making payments), I believe he is most likely insured, but the officer couldn't get his info from him last night - he's supposed to be bringing it today when he fills out "DUI victim paperwork" (what he called it) for all of us.

krunchyfrogg: Intersection of Irby St and Second Loop Rd., Florence, SC.

Rel: Thanks for the advice. It looks like I'm the only one with any external signs of damage, though, and that's just some scraping on my belly.

Mythusmage: I wouldn't be for tests of dexterity, even after what happened last night. I'm an excellent driver, but have a nerve condition that might make me fail them. Plus, I'd hate to see the first time someone needed to start their car for an emergency like getting someone to the hospital, but they can't because they're too shaken to readily pass the test. A built-in, fast, breathalyzer, OTOH, wouldn't be bad - it wouldn't catch drugged drivers, but it would still help in enough situations to be worthwhile.

Thanks to everyone who has expressed concern. Honestly, last night when we first got hit, I thought for sure someone in our vehicle was going to be SERIOUSLY hurt, so I'm feeling pretty relieved, myself, overall.

Living in Myrtle Beach, I have never been a fan of the intersections in Florence. Of course, driving in Myrtle Beach in July is no picnic either.

I am glad everyone is okay.

Man, it's amazing that in this day and age, there are still so many people that will take their and others lives into question by drinking and driving. I'm not usually someone that overly bangs on that tamborine, but with stories like this of Torm's, it just makes you shake your head.
