Just got the CD with issues 1-250; What is best, IYNSHO?

I liked the "Paths of Power" article myself. I don't remember what issue though. Really a neat system for running wizards and their spells.

Issue 50 was the first one I picked up new on a newsstand; I immediately picked up issues 45-49 after reading it, as the store still had copies on the shelves.

So issue 50 holds a special place in my heart. The article on Larry Niven's Kzinti transported to a D&D world is a great read.

The creature catalogs. It chapped my hide that the third one got left out of the dragon CD archive... I had to go dig up my hardcopy.
The 3rd was there. The 1st was missed out. Fortunately, that is one I have in hardcopy.

The article on new ioun stones in 179. It also talked about the original ioun stones as conceived by Vance, and made a sort of parallel where you could harvest them on a part of the plane of minerals that borders on the positive energy plane.
Fantastic article, and now an integral part of most of my campaigns.

For the record, the ioun stones article is on p. 174.

And I second the idea for a Dragon CD archive II: Electonic Boogaloo! :)

(Mind you, maybe this is in the works but we have to wait for issue #500, or for 4th ed. D&D...)

If you liked paths of power, you should check out the Advanced Player's Manual by Green Ronin. The Eldritch Weaver class therein is basically a revamp of the paths of power.

The missing inserts have been put up by WotC here (and it includes the full Deck of Many Things).

Hm! i'm surprised they don't have the Creature Catalog section from Dragon #89 anywhere in there, unless i'm just missing it.

I think there were licensing issues with the CDs (something about KoDT, maybe...?), which is why we never saw more CDs. :(

Well, that stuff can be blacked out...and my guess is that they've learned their lesson on licensing ;)

jh

Dragon #83 is a classic. Great cover, Baba Yaga's Dancing Hut, gemstones, and an introductory short story on some twins named Caramon and Raistlin by Margaret Weis.
