Just signed up for 2 more years

I subscribed to both Dungeon and Dragon up until a couple of months ago. I let the subscriptions lapse because, like a lot of international subscribers, I was getting my issues up to 2-3 months later than my FLGS. A couple of times I had to e-mail them and get them to re-send issues as they seemed to get lost in the mail.

At one stage I didn't receive any issues of Dungeon or Dragon for nearly 2 months. I e-mailed customer service and they sent me out the 4 issues that I hadn't received. These 4 issues somehow got to me quicker that the 4 "lost" issues that mysteriously turned up in my letterbox over the next month or so!!??? I don't know how the "lost" issues got overtaken by the other ones in the post but it happened. (I know, I know, the issues that customer service sent me were probably sent by airmail instead of a cheaper postage method.)

I have still bought issues of Dungeon from my FLGS up to the end of the Adventure Path series. I'm not sure if I will continue to do so in the future. I love the new format. If only they had made the change 6 months ago! The only problem that I currently have at the moment is that I am saving for my wedding and for a house deposit so gaming magazines come in towards the end of my things to buy list at the moment unfortunately. If the standard of Dungeon keeps up with the level of previous issues though I may just have to find a little extra cash to get them.

I haven't been getting a whole lot of use out of Dragon in the past couple of years, and the relaunch hasn't done a whole lot for me. If I had to resubscribe now I'd have to give it some thought, but would probably end up doing so anyway as it's nice to have some short articles to read through in a few minutes.

Dungeon, on the other hand, I'm getting more enjoyment out of than ever. I'd say the new relaunch has been a smashing success. I've read several recent issues cover to cover and have even gone back to read several issues from the past couple of years that I'd neglected in order to catch up on the adventure path (though I've ended up reading several older non-AP adventures too).

I feel your pain as I was recently laid off myself. I'd definately re-up Dungeon though. As noted, I've been very pleaseed with recent issues, and even if I have to cut back my gaming budget a lot, I think Dungeon is currently providing me with more bang for my buck that just about anything else. And it's nice to have it keep coming, so that even if a month is tight enough to prevent me from buying any new releases at the FLGS, I'll still have some nice D&D material to read.

I recently subbed to Dungeon once I found that I liked the new format (that and Erik's inclusion of the GH maps made me all fuzzy inside.)

I have 4 issues left for my Dragon sub. Right now, I am leaning towards letting it lapse, as it feels like it is slanted towards munchkinish powergaming. But we'll see. If Mona whips it into shape, I'll probably resub in the future.

How about the rest of you? Subbing? Continuing to sub? Stopping?
Well, funny you should ask!

Indeed, my subscription ends this December (Dragon #326). I'm stopping and letting it lapse. The new Dragon has virtually nothing for me... and what few things I am interested in fails a quick cost/benefit analysis.

The last things I'm interested in are new feats, PrCs, spells, magic items, and races. No way.

(Dungeon, on the other hand, is the greatest thing since sliced bread. My subscription continues on for almost another 3 years from now.)

I have to agree with the other Dungeon fans - it is fantastic now (and I was one of the people sad to see Polyhedron go). I used to think Dungeon wasn't all that great, but I prefer it to Dragon now. When my subscriptions are up, I'll probably renew both, though, because Dragon still surprises me every once in a while.

Folks,

If you liked what I did with Dungeon, I urge you to stick with Dragon for a few issues. I've got some really spectacular stuff planned for the magazine, and will be tinkering with the format until I think we've got it 100% right.

I have no intention of letting my subscriptions to either magazine lapse...ever. How they change the content, format, etc. is largely immaterial to me, since I don't ever want there to be something good that I would otherwise miss.

I'm big on following the development of existing worlds, I love tie-ins with products, novels, and video games, and Dungeon has rocked so seriously lately that I'd want to subscribe anyway, but even if the magazines had none of those, I'd still be paying the publishers (whoever they were) annually so I could have more.
