Grazzt: I said it worked, not that it was perfect, but anyway, here's a small example:
The rat/dire rat trouble.
Now the rat is a tiny animal with less than one HD that can't advance, so you think my idea doesn't work, well it does work, you just skip the advancement part, change the HD to 1d8, andvance it's size one catagory (changing it's Str, DEx and Con accordingly), and give it an extraordinary ability (Disease in this case), and presto, instant dire rat. You can use a similar approach to all animals that lack advancement.
So, yes it does work, and no it isn't perfect (few templates are).
