Justice League (Eclipsed)

re:psuedo-physics

that is probably the biggest 'problem area' with this episode.

They should have just made a device to offset the effects of the first device and had to get it to the sun within a short amount of time...

I was kind of surprised that Eclipso didn't have any energy blasts too.
Maybe if he comes back he will, although I don't mind the changes they made to the character.

I guess it's possible that Godfrey Could already be an agent of Darkseid, but I doubt it.
Again it would be ok with me if he is not one but then did become one later, but I can see where changes to the continuity can annoy fans that know the source material.

I kind of look at the changes as Easter Eggs,
Using the original materials but preseting it all in a new way.

Although I am sure it is more the (Bad)psuedo-physics and (sometimes Large)plot holes that degrade the quality of the show for some (many?) people
rather than the changes to the characters.

Maybe it's just most of the changes don't bother me, but then I have really been enjoying Teen Titans and X-men Evolution as well.
I like that they are different than the comics because if they were just the exact comics in animated form I would find them borring.

But I think they seem to be following at least a little fan input so hopefully this is true and if so then Next Season should be even better! :D

Truthfully, I think that this was the weakest episode of an outstanding season. Not bad, per se, but not really as good as the other episodes. I'm willing to forgive a lot, but the complete ingoring of the concept of lightspeed was really off-putting, to me. I didn't like how Eclipso became just a group of weird reptile-men, as opposed to an identifiable villain....but c'est la vie.

I was glad that Flash got some serious screen time (and got to use more of his classic tricks), but didn't like how his character behaved, at points. The main premise, that he wanted a tricked out VAN, is pretty goofy. That said, there were some good moments to be had.

"How does one get in touch with this Just-Us League?"
"I don't know, dress up in a gaudy costume and threaten to hurt people, I guess." :D

And as for this being similar to regular comic-book "science", I'd point out that it depends on what comics you read. This had about the same amount of logical science as most TV shows that add some dabbling of SF elements...often poorly. The problem here is that it wasn't 'super-science', per se. They tried to portray it as being quasi-realistic...which merely showed up it's logical fallacy, not obscurred it. Adding some element of magic into the mix would have even been better, in that regard.

The problem is that they expected us to just accept them and move on, which bugged me a tad. But the whole 'Run Flash Run' part of episode 2 was worth the price of admission alone.

I might also point out that I'm very happy with how they're willing to divy up the league in some stories. It allows them to focus on a couple of characters at a time, and make them more of the starring character that time out, without having to explain every time why Superman doesn't out-fight or Batman out-think each enemy.

To quote Comic Book Guy, "Worst episode ever!"

I've been vocal about my views of the writing on this series. The dialogue can be pretty good, but the solutions to problems seem to be pulled out of thin air. Also, I've complained about the inconsistent powers and the altering of characters.

While I may not like how they handled Doomsday or question why Hades and not Aries (or Mars) was the Amazons' archenemy or that Cheetah was now a scientific mutation, I can grit my teeth and tolerate it. This episode, however, makes me wonder if the writers even like the comics they are supposed to be adapting.

First, when Glorious Godfrey appeared, I was sure they were going to adapt the Legends mini-series in which Darkseid turned the people of Earth against the world's superheroes. Instead, he turned out to just be some human schmuck in an instantly forgetable B-story. I doubt he'll ever be seen again.

Next, we have Eclipso. Does anyone out there think they changed him for the better? For those unfamiliar with him, Eclipso is an evil god-like being, trapped within the black diamond. The shards of the diamond unleash the dark sides of the holders and acts out their rage. When thier wish is fulfilled (usually the killing of someone the holder hates), they lose their soul to Eclipso.

Now he's a colony of moon worshipping snake men.

I really wish the writers would read a DC Comic for a change since they seem to be drawing more influence from Marvel books.

Anyone else think of Marvel when they saw the barbarians chasing down the snake men? The whole "ancient snake race that one ruled the world" thing is part of Marvel continuity. They were an enemy of Kull and Conan (both barbarians in case you forgot). They were worshippers of the ancient demon/god Set (no relation to the Egyptian god). Last I recall, they were involved in a crossover story in all of Marvel's Annuals back in the early '90s.

Also, they basically turned Amazo into Marvel's Super Adaptoid. The real Amazo is a human-like android with pointy ears who could mimic the JLA's powers. The cartoon version was a featureless shape that physically changed as it took on their abilites (like growing wings like Hawkgirl), just like the Adaptoid.

I know, I know, some people will say that it's just a cartoon and that it isn't really a part of the DC Universe, so you can expect some changes, but I really don't buy that. What's the point of using the name when that's the only thing they have in common with the original? Need I remind you of the thread about Halle Berry's Catwoman, who is now Patience Price, possessor of cat superpowers, out to avenge the death of her father (or mother, depending on which press release you read) at the hands of an evil cosmetics company? Really, why bother calling it Catwoman?

I'm pretty much giving up on this series. I'll probably watch the odd episode or two, but I don't intend to follow it.

Oy. Y'know, you really can't expect the episodes to follow DC continuity- that's years upon years of stories piled on. Think of the show as its own continuity. I agree with the poster who said that famous names and such are more like "easter eggs" thrown in.

I enjoyed the show, despite the scientifical errors. Especially the line about how to contact the "Just-us" league. :)
