Kara-Tur and Zakhara, are they going to be released as portions of FR?

Not enough. And not what I want. :]

Those setting were attached to the Realms to make them appealing to sell! They have never had anything to do with the Forgotten Realms WHAT-SO-EVAH!!!!

Besides it's complete and utterly hopeless, wishful thinking. They've already come out and said that this will never happen...

and you can quote me. PTUI!!!
Then the company needs to undergo another employee layoff and restructuring until I get what I want. :]

To be honest, while I like to pillage soem 3e FR stuff, I'll never play there. However, I liked Al-Quadim, and I'd like it back. Even better than Al-Quadim would be a Arabian Adventures book, shaved of lame FR references and done like the OA book, with a sample setting and pleanty of choices for those of use who want to bring it in with a more Assyrian flavour than Yemenite or whatever.

That's what I dream of.

I think Al Quadim is the more likely candidate for a Paizo reload, simply because Oriental Adventures already covers Asian D&D.

Unfortunately, Erik Mona has already said that he's totally not into the idea (on these boards... I can't be bothered searching for it). I suspect it's mostly because he doesn't like FR and wants to prevent FR stuff ending up in Dungeon, but there you go. He basically said on these boards that while he's got anything to do with it, an arabian themed mini game won't be happening.

While Erik's not the be all and end all, I suspect he's got a fair bit of pull, especially now he's dungeon/poly ed. And They'd have to really want something done to force the dungeon/poly ed to to another of those 3 way drag/Dun/Poly things if he was dead set against it.

I think we'll see more Al-Quadim stuff in Dragon at some point, just as we've been told we'll see a bunch of the other campaign classics stuff that didn't fit into the special issue, but I suspect that will be the end of it. :(

I think that Maztica is the most likely to get some coverage - simply because Maztican gold is so important to Amn, and Amn is a fairly core Realms 'heartland area. I don't know if it will get much in the way of detail, but they've pretty much got to say something about it. Though having said that, I have some vague recollections of Amn being awash in armies of ogre-mages and such at the moment (I haven't really kept up with Realms metaplot, so I'm not sure), and if this is true then intercontinental trade is probably not uppermost on the Amnite agenda right now.

And I too would like to see a standalone Arabian Adventures book along the lines of Oriental Adventures. In fact, I was actually a fair way along with writing one myself before my publisher decided to get out of the d20 business (are you listening, publishers out there? ;)) Al-Qadim was a great setting, but shoe-horning it into FR really weakened both settings, in my opinion. Still, that wasn't the only dumb decision TSR made back then...

The only thing it says about the Great Wheel is that you can reach it through the Deep Shadow (they explicitly mention the Great Wheel and Greyhawk).

BOOYEAH! That's good enough for me! :D

My one question here is, while its obvious what they're talking about when they mention the Great Wheel, in what context do they mention Greyhawk? Is it insinuating that Greyhawk is now considered to be on an alternate Prime Material Plane?

Well, that explains why Dungeon has been in a Greyhawk only mode for a long time. It looks like I won't be renewing my subscription any timne soon. I really don't get the whole Greyhawk thing. Practically no one plays there, yet it's the default setting for D&D and the only setting as far as Dungeon magazine is concerned. It's completely ridiculous and leaves FR DM's hanging as far as adventures are concerned!

Of course, there's this new "environment" series coming out.

Betcha the desert book, when and if it happens, has quite a bit of material to satisfy your Al-Quadim jones.

The Player's guide to Faerûn has a short paragraph for the Zakharan, Kara-Turan and Maztican Planes in the Cosmology of Toril chapter (one paragraph each). They are connected to toril vial different Astral Planes (or the Spirit World, which replaces the astral plane in the case of Kara-Tur).

Huh? Since when did the *continents* of Zakahara, Kara-Tur and Maztica become *planes* in a cosmology?

If they even think about making a statement regarding the re-release of these products as part of the Realms I'll burn the whole place to the ground.

I've said this before but...

Ok, I'll bite...

Calimshan = Persia, Zakhara = Arabia
Endless Waste = Steppelands, Kara-Tur = China Proper, Japan, Korea
Jungles of Chult = (pick one) Amazon Rainforest or Tropical Africa, Maztica = Central America.

My point being, you make of the Realms what you want. While Kara-Tur, Maztica, and Zakhara are "add-on" regions, so are the Bloodstone Lands and Icewind Dale. Before someone detailed them, The Bloodstone Lands were considered Glacier-covered, and Icewind Dale was nothing more than "something beyond The Spine of the World." Those three regions are officially part of the realms, so deal with it. Don't want 'em in your campaign, don't use 'em. I like 'em and I use 'em. Sticking your head in the sand won't help your cause.
