Kenzer D&D logo

Simple questions:

Why does Kenzer and only Kenzer have the right to use the D&D logo on their products (among 3rd party publishers).

Does this make their products more 'official' than others?

And finally, is any of the above connected to their right to use 1e AD&D-based material for the Hackmaster system, including their upcoming Mystara sourcebook?

It's very expensive.

Kenzer also has to send all of their products over to WOTC to be approved.

I am not saying WOTC puts every Kenzer product through its RnD department but it does give them the beaurocratic shuffle which really adds to production time.

Also if I remember right at least one concept was nerfed by WOTC and was never made or changed greatly.

Simply enough, they paid for the license to use the logo and the game system.

I actually thought that was part of a legal settlement due to some unlicensed use of their comcs in Dragon magazine. It's what I'd heard at any rate. Anyone else know if this is true or possible?
