You pull your wand from the folds of your cloak, and its glowing blue end illuminates the door in front of you—the entrance to the banned books section. You watch as the copper snakes twist and turn around the lock that keeps students like you out. But you’ve been left with no choice. Your barn owl hoots softly upon your shoulder as you raise your wand to the knob and whisper the unspoken words.

Kids on Brooms
is a collaborative role-playing game about taking on the life of a witch or wizard at a magical school you all attend- a place full of mystery, danger, and thrilling adventure. From dealing with strict professors to facing down mythical beasts, players will get the opportunity to ride brooms, brew potions, and cast powerful magic as they uncover the incredible secrets their school and its inhabitants hold. Built using the ENnie Award-Winning Kids on Bikes framework, it is a rules-light, narrative-first storytelling game perfect for new players and gaming veterans alike!
  • Create your own unique magical school for witches and wizards!
  • Face down fantastical beasts, search for school secrets, and make sure you hand your homework in on time!
  • Wield wands, ride brooms, brew potions, and cast powerful spells!
  • Tell your own stories filled with magical adventure using the Kids on Bikes framework for rules-light, narrative-first storytelling!

So sorry, that spell does not work on copyright lawyers. lol

But seriously, they are going to have to dance very carefully around some things, if they want to keep JK off their backs. Just that first descriptive paragraph felt like it was pushing the limits.
I had that thought at first, but reading it over again, there's no product identity in it.

Now, we can probably agree that the "make your own school of magic" idea is going to result in tons of people just recreating Hogwarts, but that's not what the publishers say they're doing with it. (I'm actually thinking of having the Magic Castle in Los Angeles secretly be a school of magic, with the stage magician stuff just being a front.)

If they stick strictly to stuff from mythology -- yes to hippogryphs, no to blast-ended skrewts or Dementors -- they should be fine. They will have to resist temptation every step of the way, though.

I was thinking about "the worst witch". Seriously, when I was a child, in the 80's, years before the boom of Harry Potter, there was an action-movie for TV about an academia for witches, and Tim Curry played there (and he sang a song). The subgenre of the academy for spellcasters, wizards or witches, children or young adults, isn't new, only it become more famous with Harry Potter. Even there is an anime about that, Little Witch Academy, (and you can find AMV, Anime Media Video, in youtube).

Netflix made a series based on the original book and movie:

I will still give it a look, once it is further along and it has survived/avoided any legal challenges, because I know a lot of Harry Potter fans who also like games.

My 5E players at my table are baffled by the presence of the electrum piece on their character sheets.

"Why would we want them?"

"Um, tradition?"

But at least those are compatible with base ten!

Wizarding money
comes in three denominations: bronze Knuts, silver Sickles, and golden Galleons. There are 29 Knuts in one Sickle, and 17 Sickles make up a Galleon.

This is just quirky for the sake of quirky, which is okay in a kid's book but nonsense as you grow up...
