Kingdom Hospital

Anyone see this last night? I really wanted to like it, but after about an hour and a half, decided that I'd wasted enough time on it and went to bed.

Well, this is King's work here... We're only in the first few chapters of Kingdom Hospital's story, so don't expect too much... Looks damned interesting to me, though.

I really wish i could have said i liked it.. the dialog was hard to sit through and the characters were really wonky.. which I guess is the point. I didn't make it very long either. That and the autobiographical nature of the artist and King was hard to deal with.. I don't really care babout his revenge fantasies.

I missed it. On what channel and time did it air?

BTW, why is it called Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital? Isn't this a remake of a mini-series that aired in Denmark? King just rewrote the script as far as I know. Sheesh, it's like retitling Dream Works' remake of Ringu as Stephen Spielberg's The Ring. :\

ABC, Wednesday night at 9:00 EST. I doubt it's a remake of any mini-series from Denmark, as it is essentially the story of story of Stephen King being hit by a hit and run driver, but with the names and serial numbers filed off and some really cheesy supernatural ant-eater wandering around the hospital.

Hey, I dig the anteater.

Stephen King is one of those writers who has always written about himself. IT was a horrific reflection on his childhood, the Dark Half was a nightmare parrallel of the life of a writer, Misery was a writer's worst nightmare, and so on. The fact that he decided to write about his near-death experience surprises me not a bit.

I agree that all the characters are wonky. Some of them I like, some of them not so much. I just don't get the maniacly laughing down's syndrome duo. I do like the head of the psych department who was being heckled by imaginary street rats.

Finally, is Kingdom supposed to be a warped modern parallel of our own world? Most of the time in King's book, the world seems completely normal, but supernatural things take place. In Kingdom Hospital, the world itself seems too surreal to be taking place in our world.

There's some fun stuff going on here. I'll tune back in next week.

Any premier episode of a series during which I fall asleep slightly more than half way through it won't be on my must-watch list. I enjoy Stephen King's fiction, but just about everything he has written for TV or the big screen is exceedingly dull. IMO, he just doesn't understand that the pacing acceptable to an 800-page novel doesn't work in film, especially when interrupted every 10-15 minutes by commercials for toilet paper and prescription drugs.

Very true. Most of King's novels that were translated to TV in the past have not been so great. I think IT was the biggest disappointment for me. Kingdom Hospital's premier could have been made a little more interesting in parts, but at the same time, it is Stephen King, so I'll continue to give it a chance until it has proven itself unworthy, which it hasn't yet, for me at least.
