Kingdom Hospital

The best way to watch Kingdom Hospital is to tape it and fast forward the commercials. I actually enjoyed the two-hour pilot movie. It sets up everything nicely for future episodes. I was on the edge of my set wondering if the elevator was going to drop while someone was in it. I laughed at some of the names: Dr. Hook, Johnny B. Good, Dr. Jesse James, Dr. Christine Draper and Carrie von Trier. I am actually looking towards next week's episode.

ABC, Wednesday night at 9:00 EST. I doubt it's a remake of any mini-series from Denmark, as it is essentially the story of story of Stephen King being hit by a hit and run driver, but with the names and serial numbers filed off and some really cheesy supernatural ant-eater wandering around the hospital.

Hmmm...That's odd. I have a Direct TV, so I rely on the onscreen guide and it wasn't listed. Occasionally, they do get some things wrong. I was surprised they would miss this considering it's on a major network.

And, as Barendd Nobeard pointed out, it was based on a Danish mini-series. I thought so. IFC ran the original as one or two 6 hr movies some time ago. Never saw more than a few bits a pieces since it aired really late at night. Udo Keir was a demon or Satan or something. He also played a giant, mutant freak baby. Very, very weird stuff.

Is this going to be an ongoing tv series, then? I don't really pay much attention to tv nowadays. This whole thing just sort of sprang up on me.

Try watching the danish version. It's made by Lars von Trier, and while many do not like his way of making movies, "Kingdom" is defaintly some of his best work. This is some of the scariest stuff I've ever seen on TV.
Sadly he never got the chance to finish it. It was meant to be a 3 season series, with each season having 4 episodes. Shortly after the second season had aired, two of the leading actors, Ernst-Hugo Järegård and Kirsten Rolffes, died and as far as i know Lars von Trier has never said how he intented for the story to end. Hopefully King will shed some some light on this.
It has been released on DVD in Europe and Japan, but I don't know whether or not it's out in the US.

FYI: For those who live in or near NYC -

The American Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria Queens will be showing Lars von Trier's mini-series The Kingdom on Saturday 3/20 and The Kingdom II on Sunday 3/21. See the their Web site for more info:

It is.

I find it somewhat typical of Stephen King's television works - it takes at least a good 3 episodes to get interesting (if it ever does). I'm not holding my breath, but we'll see.

I always find it funny the way people see things differently. I found it interesting right from the beginning. :)

Anyone see this last night? I really wanted to like it, but after about an hour and a half, decided that I'd wasted enough time on it and went to bed.

I watched it tonight. Bizarre. I'm willing to give it some time to get its legs.

I saw in the credits tonight that Lars von Trier is one of the Executive Producers of Kingdom Hospital, so hopefully it will.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to seeing the original Danish mini-series at AMMI this weekend :)
