A cat killed some birds that were nesting in a little dish my mom had put out at my house. Cats are all Chaotic Evil.
Well, it could have been a really vicious squirrel. Probably a cat though.
In my experience though, usually the bird is either very unlucky, or stupid if it gets killed by a cat, since cats can't really fly. Cats usually get mice, squirrels, snakes, rabbits, etc.
I have seen cats get birds a couple of times. One time, the bird basically just fly right up to him. Very weird, like the bird was committing suicide.
The other time, this bird was harassing my barn cats. Birds like to do that for some reason, swoop down, but out of the reach of the cat. Well, one of the cats, Tubby, watched the bird a few times, then the next time it swooped down, in a blink she ran, jumped on the ladder that goes up into the barn loft, and then jumped off of that and grabbed the bird in mid air. Pretty impressive. And funny. I was tempted to let her keep it, but I rescued it.
Still, I think you are right. Cats are the only animals that actually seem to enjoy killing other animals. And hunting when they aren't hungry.
Dogs often kill, but generally they are either being protective of their turf, or do it accidently, like my dogs when they catch rabbits (they think they should retrieve them for me).
