Koboldnomicon - Tamarin Kobolds

Wow, Psion - first it's dragon shaman, and now tamarin kobolds?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that your players walk all over you? :p

Man, put your foot down! Show 'em who's boss. At the very least, make them choose stuff in products that you at least own!

You got it wrong. The same player suggested the Tamarin Kobold that suggested the Dragon Shaman. He suggested the Kobold first. ;)

That said, I'm all for new races if they are balanced and justified, and I can find a place for them. New classes, however, give me heartburn. They often can't carry the load of existing classes and aren't sufficiently different from existing options that are better supported and more flexible.

In general, I try not to be a wet blanket GM. The players are there to have fun. But I have my limits.

I see your point about new and different classes. Really, I'm sort of a stickler for having one of each of the core classes. I'm a little less picky about whether there is a rogue or not, because I can just adjust the number of traps accordingly. But I find that having a rogue, cleric, tank, and a wizard/sorcerer.

In my last campaign, a couple of the players insisted on playing a warlock and a warmage. I despise the warlock, but the warmage I just pitied. The barbarian couldn't help but rub in the fact that, at 6th, neither of the "wizards" in the party could actually read magic, or remove the glyphs off a warded door. Pathetic.

Which is why I allow neither warmages or warlocks.

Why not tell him he can play the normal Kobold from the MM. Then you would know he was close to balanced, rather than some buffed up Kobold from some other book.

Since I was already planning a sort of jungle segment to the campaign, I would have been totally cool with a race that would have been able to be slotted into there. I just have to know what they do, you know?

But, as he settled on playing a Half-Orc Barbarian, it's sort of a moot point now.

I sent you an e-mail

Psion,

I sent you an e-mail. I'd be happy to send you a reviewer copy if you want to write a review for Enworld. I think you'll find the Tamarin quite balanced and playable.

I had the priveldage of seeing all of the Kobold variant races when I ran my Kobold campaign. Only the dragon-marked one seemed a bit unbalanced. The Tamarin barbarian and sorceror both worked out well and didn't seem too much different with the exception of flavor.
