Kobolds in FR

Yig

First Post
Hi,

I will soon play in a FR campaign and the DM basically told us to pick whatever race we liked, within reason, and I chose kobold.

Basic character concept would be a Sorc with a few levels of Barb to increase odds of survival :)

I need help from FR experts to figure out a few thing:

- Where would a tribe of mostly good kobolds come from (region) ?

- What would be the best patron diety for said character (AL is GC) ?

Thanks for the help, it's really appreciated.

-Ask your DM... personally I'd go with the Delimbyr Valley, or the High Forest... I don't recall any mention of good-aligned kobold tribes anywhere. Of course, I'm far from a FR demagogue.

-I'd say Tymora. Or Sune, if you want to be funny about it.

There are no good kobold tribes in canon FR. There are tribes north east of Waterdeep, in the Silver Marches and numerous other places, but none of good alignment.

As for which deity, well, Tymora sounds like a reasonable fit.

Actually, IMO a kobold doesn't fit my definition of, "within reason" and, frankly, if I were your DM I would endeavour to persuade you to choose a race more in keeping with the world's flavour, particularly as you have no backstory of your own to explain your choice of the kobold.

Cheers

I think that in a FR world that has Drow as a standard race, and allows grey dwarves and svirfneblin, asimaar, tieflings, genasi of all sorts, has Illithid and drow lurking the back streets of Waterdeep, that a CG kobold is perfectly fine.

You obviously got kicked out of your tribe and are struggling to find a place in this world. I'd drop the barbarian levels, and take rogue instead (better to hide than rage when you are a little kobold in a human city).

The best of Tymora's Luck to you!

I play in an FR campaign and I think that your choice is interesting. It may a little difficult to role-play a kobold, but hey, challenge is fun. Moreover, you may have some trouble gaining entrance into some towns and cities ... do you know where in the realms you are playing?

In regards to where you could come from....anywhere with mountains or thick forests is pretty good. The North is probably the best choice imho. But ask your DM to take a look at his FRCS to determine a good starting location.

Go for it, you should have a grand time!

Cheers,

I agree. I think anywhere along the southern border of the Spine of the World would do - as long as it has a relatively low population of "civilized races" - the outlying areas of the Silver Marches springs to mind.

As for patron, I'd go with Tymora, or Selûne. Shaundakul might also be a good a good choice for a good-aligned kobold.

I think Silver Marches is a good choice. If for no other reason than Silverymoon is one of the few cities that might accept a kobold walking around the streets and shops.

I played a kobold Illusionist/Rogue in a non-FR campaign once and it was a blast. He was sneaky and trrricksy and quick as a snake. It was a lot of fun.

Hi everyone and thanks for the suggestions.

My DM told me that we will play in the Silver Marches, at least at the start. I know that he will run City of the Spider Queen when we'll be at the appropriate level.

I considered Rogue instead of Barb but I tought that Rogue was a bit too civilized for someone who lived in the wild.

I think I'll use the got kicked of the tribe and had to survive alone for a while...

Would anyone be kind enough to provide a brief description of the gods mentioned in the thread ? My DM (childhood friend,by the way) borrowed all my FR books.

Thanks !
