Kobolds

Depends on the part of the campaign world in which you travel. I figured the name can be a bit more universal, used in different places to describe different things.

Yep. Just put that on its hind legs, tweak the features a bit to make 'em more humanoid, give 'em a spear and a smock and bammo - kobold.

Plus the picture shown is a Cynodont -= a large 'dog-like' Therapsid. There were smaller more gracile (rat-like) therapsids which are more likely candidates for Kobold ancestors

DS uses this tact to explain why they're still alive. While kobolds are the draconic 'idiot cousin', they're still family. Extreme dragon prejudice here; if you're not a dragon or related to one you get pity or second class treatment. Kobolds tend to get that anyway, but...

Individual acts of torment for the beasties is tolerated, but if you go on a kobold hunting spree...


The worst part is when the dragon has to pick between helping you or the kobold, they actually have to think about it (That's how it was run for us, anyway).

Why? Yorkshire terriers and bears are distantly related (Ursines are apparently ralted to dogs), as are the lion and the American short hair.
