Knightfall
World of Kulan DM
Aureus looks at the other chest and is amazed by its beauty. "Wow, this chest might be worth a fortune all by itself. Ooh, so pretty." The chest is made from the finest oak and reinforced with adamantine bands. The wood is beautifully engraved and the chest is extremely heavy. Aureus tries to pull it out from the wall and nearly falls over. "Damn, it's heavy!"
Quinn comes over and helps her, and it is almost too heavy for the gladiator-knight. "Oof! Heavy indeed!"
They finally pull it out far enough for Aureus to get a good look at the whole chest. Even though she already went over it for traps, she checks again. She says a small prayer to Vaflar, the patron of her people back on Maran. Her deity must be watching over her, because not only does she not find any traps, she finds a clue as to how the chest opens. It's a good thing too. The lock is something she's only every heard described to her.
"Wow, this lock is amazing! I'd love to take it apart and study it," she says. Quinn clears his throat. "Right, no, I won't."
She spend nearly two hours examining the chest, its design, and the lock. She coos and pats the lock. Then, she kisses it. "We are going to be the best of friends. I'm going to take such good care of you, don't you worry."
"Aureus!" Qi says.
"What? I'm just getting to know her," she hugs the chest.
"Just open it, already," Qi insists. There is anger in the adamantine rods voice.
"Don't be jealous, you're still my favourite, my lovely lady," Aureus giggles.
Aureus gets to work on the lock. Vaflar's will is with her. It takes another half an hour, but the lock opens. It isn't just a click. The mechanism shifts and folds and recedes into the chest and the lid lifts by itself.
"So intricate. So lovely."
She prays to her god again. "Please don't let it be more clothes?"
She looks inside. "Wow!"
The bottom of the chest is filled with gold coins. It's not enough to make the chest so heavy. That was the chest itself. The inside of the chest's lid is decorated with the Mark of the Boots, as well as the personal sigils of the six main members of the fellowship. There are other sigils decorating the inside of the chest, all engraved into an adamantine interior.
"This is a good haul of gold coins. Hmm, these aren't like the Strandlands current coins. Probably really old. Out of date."
She pulls out a hemp bag that was sitting on top of the coins. She shakes it. More coins? She opens the bag. "Platinum coins. Very nice. Similar to the gold. Several hundred, at least."
She looks back at Quinn, smiling, whose gone back to the shelves to help sort through the books. "I'm so happy."
Aureus pulls out a scroll case next. It has a single scroll in it. She gives it Phar to examine. There are also potion in the chest. Five in total. She takes each one and puts them on the table in between the two shelves.
She saves the best for last. Well, she thinks its the best. It is a fine looking dagger in a leather scabbard. The handle is carved wood and the blade is made of well carved bone. "I like you," she says to the dagger. It is well balanced and the bone blade looks as sharp as the day it was put away in the scabbard.
She brings it over to Caerth. "I don't know if this was Stratesus' or not, but it looks like something a druid would use. Or maybe a rogue with a savage streak?"
