Phar calls to Featar and then flies across and peeks his head in the hole at the end of the hallway. He has a good listen before poking his head in.


I'm assuming my detect magic didn't find anything in the ghoul's room. But it's still up for another 10 minutes.

Maur looks at the wounds. "Ghouls, as all filthy things, can transmit disease, but you definitely shouldn't feel anything just yet. Normal diseases aren't that fast acting. You shouldn't feel anything. It might be poison of some kind or simply irritation by the filth."

He looks the gladiator over, cleaning the wounds and looking for signs of hastened disease symptoms. After all, the ghouls were hasted.

Phar doesn't hear anything coming up through the hole. All he can hear is the wind.

Featar's keen senses are able to pick the sound of scurrying from somewhere beyond the hole. The sound is muffled.

When Phar pokes his head through the door, he doesn't see anything scurrying in the chamber beneath the hole. Directly beneath him is an old privy that has not been magically protected. There is sand and grime everywhere in the 20 feet by 20 feet chamber directly below the hole in the roof. There are two other smaller holes in the roof directly above the rotting 'seats' of the privy. A large drainage grate sits in the centre of the chamber but it is choked with plants growing up through it including a scraggly tree. The walls of the chamber have begun to crumble.

Beyond the chamber, a corridor extends 20 feet south and 40 feet north. At the southern end there isn't a wall and it doesn't appear that there ever was a wall built there. There are scraggly trees by the southern opening and many other scraggly trees spread outward around the opening. At the northern end of the corridor is a small stone door that faces north. It is set into the northeast corner of the corridor.

Featar is certain the scurrying is coming from behind the door.

Aureus takes note of Phar's curiosity and she flies to where he a Featar are exploring. She hovers in the air near them but stays higher in the air to keep away from the smell. She stays silent until Phar speaks.

Maur doesn't detect any sign of disease or poison in the gladiator-knight's wounds. Yes, they should be cleaned. All of their wounds should be completely cleaned.

Caerth takes it upon himself to move towards the corridor northeast of the great hall. It is still choked with webs and appears to zig-zags north, east, and the north again. Caerth looks back towards Angus.

"We need to cut through or go around," he says to the northlander centaur. "You cut, I'll try to go around."

He turns toward Litrix, Maur, and Quinn. "You all okay to keep exploring? We should try to explore everywhere before night falls."

He moves out of the ruins through the gaping hole in the wall. He is mindful of the stonework above his head. It doesn't look like it will fall on him. Regardless, his curiosity about the ruins and Bogphin pushes him on. He makes his way around the exterior of the wall until he finds another break in the wall. The webs that had been holding up the walls have crumbled to the ground. The half-orc druid manages to find his way into the northern part of the corridor. There is tons of rubble and an old round wooden table lying broken on the floor. He steps around the broken table into the ruined room beyond.

Caerth is soon standing on the other side of the 10-foot long table that spiders crawled across to enter the old, empty armoury. He stops just inside the room and studies everything around him. There is another room to the east and the half-orc druid can see through an open doorway. If it once had a door, it was either removed or destroyed. He can see an old fireplace against an eastern wall 40 feet away. In the northeastern corner of the room, he can see that there is another corridor or room to the north. There is another 10-foot long table standing near the opening. The room contains old debris and crumbled stonework, but there is a wooden shelf in the room's northwest corner. It doesn't look damaged but appears empty.

Caerth stands and waits. He listens silently and looks for any signs of danger as he waits for the others. He can hear his own heart beating but not much else. He doesn't see anything that might be hiding. All there is is wooden debris of ruined furniture, old drying webs, and scattered rubble. He continues to wait, then he calls out to Angus.

"Angus! I need Aureus' expertise in here. I don't want to step on a trap."

"Let's explore some more, shall we? The fastest of you, go after Angus. I'll follow Phar on the ground."
 

Phar quietly whispers in Aureas' tongue to go and warn the others that there are still monsters - possibly more spiders - moving around just North of here.

"I will wait and, if I hear combat, will open the door and attack from behind."
Aureus nods and flies back towards the others. She hears Caerth call out to Angus, so she goes to find the half-orc druid first. She lands near one of the holes in the wall and pokes her head through. "Phar thinks there might be more spiders, or something else, crawling around over there. There is a door at the end of the corridor."

Caerth nods. He backtracks towards the others.

Aureus flies exits the ruins to avoid the webbed hallway and flies along the wall above Caerth. They come to the large gap Caerth already used just as Angus finishes cutting away several sections of webbing. The large centaur is making quick work of the webs.

They find the others gathered behind the centaur as he works.

"Uiread de lìn damhain-allaidh!" Angus curses as he cuts away more of the webs

So many damn spider webs!

"We'll be fine in just a minute." After repeated triggering of the wand, its magic is exhausted and Maur carefully stashes it away for new enchantments. He looks at the group standing around him.

"Let's explore some more, shall we? The fastest of you, go after Angus. I'll follow Phar on the ground."
Caerth and Quinn gladly accepts the dwarf's healing.

"Ah, I feel much better," Quinn says as he stretches out his sore muscles.

"There are more rooms beyond those webs," Caerth says. "I saw an old fireplace in one room. It's door was completely gone. I didn't see any danger or hear any movement."

"But, there is something else over there," Aureus points towards Phar is waiting. "He and Featar heard something moving in that corridor."

"More spiders?" Quinn asks.

"Maybe," Aureus says as she flies back up into the air. "He's waiting for us to join him."

Maur leads the ways out of the broken gap in the ruins and across the rocky and mossy ground. Caerth walks alongside him while Aureus flies back to Phar ahead of them. She stops and hovers just above the large hole next to Phar. Featar is perched on the roof near the edge of the hole. Caerth whistles for Screech and the owl glides in silently to land next to Featar. The two birds of prey have bxcome used to each other's presence.

"This... way...?" Angus asks Quinn and Litrix in halting Common. He has cleaned the webs from his blade, but there is another 15 feet of webs choking the northeast corridor. "No an tèid sinn còmhla riutha?"

Or shall we join them?

Maur and Caerth arrive at the very large hole in the wall. The gap in the wall is 10 feet wide and nearly as high. Inside, the dwarf champion can see (and smell) the 20-foot by 20-ft chamber that was once used as a privy. There are plants growing out of the large grate on the floor, including a scraggly tree. Beyond the two privy seats, Maur can see that walls are even more broken. It wouldn't take much for the ceiling to come down on top of their heads. Well, what is left of the ceiling.

"So, where's this door?" Caerth asks.

As the others approach, Phar confirms,

"There is the door up ahead where Featar heard skittering. This hallway looks a unstable. I will attempt to open the stone door and lure whatever is inside, out into the hallway, towards the rest of you. Perhaps, Aureus, you could join me and check the door for traps."

Phar pulls out a wand and pronounces the command word, casting Cat's Grace on himself and Aureus then moves to the door, hovering over the floor.



I'm not sure if Aureus benefits from cats grace or if she already has an item that does boost her dex. Anyways, it lasts 5 minutes. I've added another 4 rounds onto my durations for our chat.

For the record, I need Aureus to be behind Phar if things attack us.

But he sets his position next to Quinn and readies his attack too.

Phar can tell that the roof of the privy isn't just unstable. It will collapse if he or anyone else damages the remaining stonework. It wouldn't take much. He warns the others but he senses that Maur is already aware that the roof could collapse on them.

Aureus follows Phar down the corridor to the door. "I'll need some room, and I'm not going to do this while flying." She lands, gently, on the floor in front of the door and looks at the lock. "Hmm, nothing special about this lock." She inspect the lock and the entire door for any traps. It doesn't appear to be trapped.

"It looks fine," she whispers to Phar. She listens with her ear to the door to see if she can hear what Phar's familiar heard. "There is definitely something moving around in there."

She floats back into the air and then moves just to Phar's left. "You're going to knock it, right?

With Phar's warning, Quinn is careful as he moves through the gap in the wall. He is able to move through without bumping into the wall and sets himself behind Phar with his chain at the ready.

Maur's instinct about the roof is confirmed by Phar's warning, and it is a good thing. Even with his instincts, he isn't sure where the weakest point might be located. Hopefully, the creature moving around behind the door can be contained. Maur positions himself right next to Quinn in the corridor with Phar flying in front of Quinn and Aureus flying in from of him.

The dwarf looks back to see that Caerth enters the privy and stops to look at the plants around the grate while making sure to avoid touching the walls. He relays Phar's warning to Litrix and Angus about the room and the weakened walls.

"Don't touch any of the stonework," he says plainly to them. "There might be something beyond that door, waiting," he points up the corridor towards Maur and the others. "Angus, be very careful."

Caerth takes a steps towards the others and readies his bow.

Litrix finds himself just inside the corridor with Angus behind him. The room is filled with rubble by the broken walls and plants growing up out of the grate, including a large scraggly tree. There is small pile of broken loose stone under his feet and a larger pile of broken stone and mortal just north of him. He remembers this area from when he and Aureus initially checked around the entire ruin. It's even more of a wreck of a room from the inside. The walls south of him look a little more solid, but it's hard for him to tell if the southern corridor's walls and roof would collapse. Looking north towards the others, the northern corridor looks in better shape.

When Angus looks into the ruined privy, he can tell immediately that there isn't enough room between the crumbling wall and the tree growing up through the grate for him to get through without bumping into or pushing past the crumbling walls. "Chan eil mi leat..." he mumbles to himself. The northlander centaur considers his options. He looks at his borrowed flying ring. It might be his best option. If he can find another way inside from above...

"I don't think so..."
