Kyngdoms Campaign Setting

I expect (I haven't bought it) that you can get everything you need in the setting book, if you are happy with just a single one or two page map, as is common in print setting books.

Everything that is in the website (except for the color map and (obviously!) all the stuff in Feedback and Meta sections) is in the pdf. Some minor things have been adapted, but essentially what you see is what you get.

It comes with a 9-page map, which covers the essential areas. The map on the website is huge - 100 web pages, to be precise - and is in full color, so you can always go there and print out the sections you want. Alternatively, you can buy a pdf of the atlas. Each page is indexed, so you can locate any place you want with ease.

Are there plans for a full print release (not POD)?

I would love to make it available as a full print release, if there was enough interest. Rather than do it myself, though, I think I'd rather do it in partnership with an established publisher. I just don't know enough about the publishing market in that respect to give it a fair crack of the whip.

In a few sentences, what makes the Kyngdoms setting interesting/unique? (I.e. why should one look into this setting, as opposed to Greyhawk, etc.?)

Thanks!

What is the difference between a full print release and Print on Demand? I've not ever purchased a POD product before, and I find PDF's less than useful. I'm a bit of an antique that way. ;)

Hi there,

The Kyngdoms was released on the 18th April, so is still fresh and new! There seems to be some confusion over the price, so let me first say (as has already been pointed out) that the entire setting is available for free at:

www.thekyngdoms.com

I don't know where the $40 price tag came from. PDFs are available. The Kyngdoms Campaign Setting and The Kyngdoms Atlas are $14.99 each and The Kyngdoms Full map is $9.99. You can also get the POD version of he Kyngdoms Campaign Setting and The Kyngdoms Atlas at $34.99 each.

O.K. - I'm missing something super obvious: Are you saying the setting is free on your website or I can pay for the pdf of the same thing? Help me understand why folks would pay for it. As I say, I'm sure I am missing something obvious - so help an ole' grognard out here.

THe PDF file would be something you could access offline. Presumably it's bookmarked and very navigatable. The 'free' material is all in HTML format on the Kyndoms website--have a look at it here http://www.thekyngdoms.com/index.shtml

A full print release demands that the publisher pays for the whole print run upfront; this means that he has to guess how much books will be sold in order to be able to break even. Print on Demand means that the copy you order will be printed whenever there's demand for the product. Of course, the production costs per copy are substantially higher this way, but the publisher doesn't risk losing money.

Does this mean the production quality of the print is less? Will I be unable, for example, to get the book printed as a hardbound? I dislike softback books. Will it be all black and white or color? Etc.
