L4W Discussion Thread III

I agree, I look at the Avenger and I just see awesomeness. Like the fact that with censure of retribution say I have a +4 int bonus at level one. I charge toward the big baddy and get hit by 3 Opp Atks. All the sudden I'm doing an additional 12 damage on every attack against the target of my oath because censure of retribution says the bonus damage from being hit is cumulative.

They also have a lot of cool powers that run in the same vein. My personal favorite so far is "wrath of the divine" its a lvl 6 utility that triggers when someone nails you with a critical. As long as your oath target is within a burst 10 he takes radiant damage equal to the damage of the crit. That is super pimp! I can just see it now, a dragon or giant mauls you for like 45 or 65 damage with a critical and then has to take it right back.

I just think the Avenger has so much to it that basic "average damage math" people failt to account for or really have no mathematical way to account for.

Case in point - Avenger=Awesome Sauce and I will be rocking one. Now I just need to decide on a race. Any thoughts?

Avenger is awesome. And you're right, the CO boards is looking at the class as if you will never or will very rarely get that Censure ability. If your DM isn't an arse and you build your character well, you should be able to get it at least every other round if not every round depending on what you're fighting.

For race, the Elf and the Razorclaw seem to be really good for Pursuit avengers. Of course, +2 ability bonuses aside, they have awesome mechanical boosts that flesh well with the idea of the class. +1 speed to run around crazy, roll 2d20 and then use Accuracy to reroll both? Yes please.

+2 speed for the Entire encounter, every encounter once bloodied? Shouldn't be too hard if you charge through 1-4 OA"s every few rounds.

Actually I was just looking at it and Deva seems the way to go to me. Their racial ability plays so perfectly into the Avengers. I just wonder if when you use the deva ability its like any other modifier, or if its supposed to be as if youd "rolled" a number that much higher.

I just like the idea that at least once an encounter, more with the feats available to them, that I can gurantee a hit on a big power (can you say never miss my daily on a boss)

Yeah, Devas seem pretty much perfect for an isolating avenger. If I was going to build one, it'd be a deva ;) Especially with the deva racial feats, you can build up some awesome bonuses.

But I just can't quite get myself to give up all the extra mobility of a pursuing avenger. At almost every level where you get an encounter power, there's at least one power that either lets you shift or teleport great distances with the attack. I'm a pretty big fan of mobility in general though, which is probably why I lean towards that.

I just have this image in my head of a deva avenger, with the zealous assassin pp just teleporting all over the place with a fullblade chopping people to bits. It feels very anime!... Thats good right?

I consider it good ;) I was pretty excited when there was a melee class that could actually be effective without armor, haha. And I also love the zealous assassin PP. When it was previewed I drooled all over my keyboard.

Now all I have to do is suffer through several months of unavailability here on the forums, and get to level 2 by then... no problem right??? Right?!!!

ukingsken, I like your idea of the deva avenger with fullblade and here is my tip to make it deadlier, take Channel Divinity: Righteous Rage of Tempus(Araz/Maraz/Maros/Aressus) as feat

Lol I'm already on top of it. Too bad no transitive Isle gods allow that power as far as I know. Time to invent a demigod perhaps! That or it can be proposed that it be an Aressus power as you suggested. Either one makes sense to me.
