L4W Discussion Thread III

I volunteered for him but I think I will retract my nomination in your favor, covaithe, due to that I haven't read the adventure due to Soldier being in the tavern at that moment.

I'm not sure that the wiki would allow you to import the content of other pages, though if it does that's some neat functionality. I would venture that a page with imported content would load slower than a normal page, simply because it would probably require the page to be built on the fly from all of the referenced pages, rather than being able to be stored in presentation form.

It is possible to do according to the help although I haven't experimented with it... you never know what will REALLY work until you try. ;)

It's also supposed to be possible to import the contents of another page so that it's actually written into the wikitext of the main page, "pre-rendered" sort of, rather than pulling it in on the fly each time the page is served. The downside of this method is that if the dependent page changes, the changes won't show up on the importing page until it also gets edited. But if the other page changes infrequently it may not matter.

There's at least one place I saw that I wanted to break out a separate page when I have time, so I'll try out some of these tricks then.

If any DDI subscribers has seen the latest Ampersand Ampersand: Debuts and Exclusives They have announced some new things they are doing.

On the 15th of this month they'll publish a new race the revenant that's DDI exclusive and they promise will never seen print in a physical book. October will bring the Assassin class same deal DDi exclusisve. So I imagine these will be available 3 months after they are published?

That brings me to the next question, Starting in July they will be publishing PHB3 material in DDI, not playtest fully playable finished as will appear in print, to me that says that these items should be considered 3 months from their first publishing not waiting for the book, how does everyone else feel?

Argh. How annoying.

I suppose there's no reason either of those things couldn't be proposed 3 months after appearing in DDI. I don't believe for a minute, though that the "finished" stuff will actually appear in print in the PHB completely unchanged.

The big question is whether they'll silently update the stuff that's published on DDI first, or publish errata for the changes between the initial DDI version and the published PHB3 version. If they publish errata, that's no harder for us to deal with than the PHB1 errata.

I think we need to be a bit more careful with the DDI exclusive stuff... it'll create two-tiered playing field for the members. Maybe it's just me with the sour grapes, but I don't really like one group having access to the super-exclusive race/class, especially if they keep this going.

Also, for DM's running a game I'd have 0 clue as to any info about the race or the class and couldn't fairly adjudicate it, plus it creates more work on the judges and forces them to either get DDI, or 'borrow' accounts with the other judges....

Thoughts?
