D&D 5E Labelling as much as possible "optional"

I guess I just didn't understand what you meant by "cutting".

It sounded like removing them from the book, but I am assuming that the "undissolvable core" of 5e (i.e. all that cannot be opted out without adjusting the rest) was supposed to be quite small.

I know that Basic and PHB/DMG will be two different things, so perhaps the thread's question could eventually become "what do we put in Basic", and assume that everything added by PHB/DMG is consequently optional (because of what WotC had said before about transitioning from Basic to Standard, that elements can be added one-by-one).

But I specifically wanted not to ask "what do we put in Basic" because people would have started to suggest which classes/races should or shouldn't be in Basic. And that's another matter :) I wanted to focus on rules rather than quantitative material.

Fair enough. Consider us in complete agreement, then, I just misunderstood your intent :)

Cheers!
