Nope. At the current time, there is no AD&D 2e open source clone, though some people will try to sell you snake oil of a different name and claim that it is the thing you're looking for. Don't trust them.

I don't think 2E was more popular with the "old school" crowd (i.e. the people most interested in the "clone" systems). I know I never thought much of it.

I dunno, it's honestly hard to judge the popularity of most anything that TSR printed based on sales numbers, as those seem to have been grossly misrepresented by TSR for a very, very, long time.
