Lake Geneva Gaming Convention III

Well, at GTS I spoke with Steve and Chris and decided that I would be at the LGGC this year, come hell or high water. I've missed every LGGC thanks to deadlines, and it looked like things were wide open for me this year...

Well, of course, when I get back to work from the show I find out that the bosses had given me a heaping helping of both hell and high waters by re-jiggering around my deadlines! I now have three magazines due between June 13 and June 21... so I don't know if I'll be there or not at this point.

If I am able to make it, I'll run C&C set in the Wilderlands of High Adventure; maybe, too, some LA set on Learth. Fingers crossed...

Whew!
Almost missed this post

Yes indeed, there is a Thursday evening party starting at about 6:00 PM on my front porch. As usual we'll have chow and some soda and beer, but bringing what you like to drink is always a good idea, Last year Steve had to make two beer runs :uhoh: Oddly, the year before a case was all we had, and only about half of it was consumed during the party.

The addy here is 316 Madison St.

Cheers,
Gary

Excellent. Since we're not driving up, I will likely send the wine on ahead (S&H taken care of, of course), is that OK? We can discuss it more via email if you prefer...

Is this an open invite, Gary? :D I'm flying in on Thursday, but I may not be arriving until 10pm or later....
Sure is, just as it was for LGGCs I and II. If the crown gets nuch larger, though, we'll have to go to an invitation only party for the year after that happens. Last year we were at near capacity, although no one had to go out into the yard, some standing was necessary.

I crash at around 10 PM, but if there is anyone left on the porch, come on in.LAst year there were some revelers there until around midnight

BTW, we are going to have a small room party at GenCon, night uncertain...and I;ll bail out of that arounf 10 PM too. Gettin' too old for hootin' & hollerin' until all hours as I once did :\

Cheers,
Gary

Sounds fine. We het a lot of parcels here, so another is no problem. If there is anything special to cover, an email if fine too :)

It is really a shame that there is no public transportation to Lake Geneva any longer. We used to have the C&NW from Chicago twice a day and about 10 busses a day stopping here.

Cheerio,
Gary

Ah Phooey!

Three Chinese cheers for your cruel taskmasters :]

Anyway, I hope you can make it, James. Long time no see.

Ciao,
Gary

Jeez that's tempting. And not too far away either. I think I might be on call that weekend though, I'll have to check.
I think Frank Mentzer will be there with some baked goodies from the Baker's House too

Cheers,
Gary

LGGC Rocks!

LGGC is great!

Man, I wish I could make it again this year, but I'm going to have to settle for Gen Con. Yeah, I do prefer the small and intimate setting. Allow me to give you folks a rundown of some of the things I did:

* Hung out on Gary's porch, drank some beers and talked shop. Gary made his famous spicy beans, and they went down great with the beer and some 'brats. Not to be forgotten is Gary's lovely wife Gail -- a wonderful hostess and quite a character!

* Went to the LGGC, talked shop with Rob Kuntz for a while.

* Played a game of Jasmine with Darlene.

* Spoke with Frank Mentzer for a while, who took a look at the maps of a module I was working on at the time and gave me some wonderful insights.

* Got to meet all the Trolls and check out Peter Bradley's prints up close.

* Ran a pick-up game of C&C. I saw an empty table. I had some dice, some books, and 25 years of DMing experience, so I found some like-minded souls and threw together an improv game -- we had a blast!

* Played a game of Lejendary Adventure on Gary's porch. I fondly remember being the first person to say something when danger presented. I looked at Gary and said, "I cast a spell!" That was awesome.

* Took a tour about the Lake Geneva area, taking in all the sites -- and the restaurants are excellent, especially breakfast!

* Got my DM's guide signed by Kuntz and Mentzer. Darlene signed it also, and she sketched an Egyptian goddess in it as well. I got Gary to sign it and had him draw me a pole-arm, which he was quite happy to do, because he knows a thing or two about them! ;)

* Observed a game of Chainmail played by members of the original Castle & Crusade Society -- Gary Gygax, Jeff Perren, Ernie Gygax, Rob Kuntz, and some of their dear fellows whose names escape me. They re-enacted the siege of the moathouse (T-1) and I think Gary was double-crossed by a treant hiding in a copse of trees. Paul Stormberg did a wonderful job putting it all together -- nice guy, that Paul.

* Bought books, walked around, chatted with Tom Wham, Ernie Gyagx, and many others. I saw the biggest damn Greyhawk map in the world.

It was an amazing time!
