I once played a Kobold sorcerrer named Aryte Vorastrix. It was actually a draconic translation but during every battle our DM usually motions to the person who has initiative and says All right your go. Which always sounded like Aryte your go. It was rather confusing. Also my best freind uses variations of his own name for every character.

While this isn't quite as bad as Evian or Aquafina...a Dread Pirate in Greyhawk named William Roberts always sort of stuck in my craw. First off, because it's a bit too contemporary for Greyhawk, in my opinion.

That's crazy talk.

We once played a Gurps game where one of our players drafted C. Annon Fodder. But to be fair none of our characters lived long.

we had a C. Fodder in Cuthulu game too. Quite apt if you ask me.

I usually ask players to rename stupidly named characters and give them a list of good names to choose from.

FREX William Roberts would be fine even for a pirate IMC (I allow western names in my fantasy games) -- except an age of sail game

I've gamed with three different people who named a character a very slight variation on their own name.

"Icy the Cold" actually turned out to be a great character, but I cringed when he first introduced himself.

We had a friend whose Shadowrun character, an Irish elf gunslinger was called "Rick O'Shea." We thought it was corny at first but it grew on us over time and we started to like it - it suited. The character was psycho, however. Rather like the player.

We also had a Shadowrun character called "Hung Lo", which later became "Hung Well". As the GM, I put the kibosh on that one for decency's sake.

Oh, and I once played a character called Bill the Giant. In my defence, he wasn't actually a giant, he was a half-dragon. My fellow PC asked "what the hell are you?" and I did the whole "I'm a giant" schtick, viz:
*Me: I'm a giant.
*Other PC: You're too short to be a giant.
*Me: I've been ill.
It was an old gag, but the other PC went with it and from that point on I was a giant as far as everybody was concerned. I forget where "Bill" came from, but for the entirety of the campaign I remained "Bill the Giant", despite neither being appropriate.

In a 2ED D&D campaign, a buddy of mine and I played a pair of fighters- mine was a giant Dwarf (5'8", 280lbs), and his was a dwarf Giant (6'2", 400lbs). Both being outcasts from their own societies, they became blood brothers...

While their names weren't over the top, playing them was quirky enough.

In my current Forgotten Realms campaign, the cleric of Lathander (the Morninglord) is named Don. When the player lost his original copy of the character, Don acquired the rest of his name: Don Mark Tuoh (pronounced 'two', of course).

I suppose I had it coming. In a previous campaign in which I was a player, my cleric (also of Lathander) was named Morgan.
