Large party encounter suggestions

What about terrain? I don't want the players to file down a 5 foot wide hallway and get chewed up by some meat-grinder of a monster I put at the end of it, but a big empty room isn't interesting at all. I've been experimenting with differences in elevation, but I'd like some more ideas if you've got any.

Elevation is Good. difficult terrain can help as well.

Crenellated wooden shelves and walkways that allow goblins with cover to shoot down at PCs while right below the gobbos, hobgoblins with tower shields form a shield wall.

Inverted ziggurats are a cool design if the monsters have missile weapons.

Multiple corridors and path ways. Fissures that are wide enough for nimble PCs and scurrying monsters reduce choke points.

http://www.terragenesis.co.uk/ has lots of cool terrain ideas.
