LARPers and D&D players

Do you players of D&D ever play LARP?

I've done lots of freeform roleplaying, but never a true LARP. I prefer tabletop 99% of the time, but with the right tiny, select group of people who can each play 5+ characters in a sci-fi/fantasy soap opera (with mechs), freeform can be a blast. :D

I've never played in a Larp before, but it looks on the outside more like improv acting based around a fantasy theme. No script, just roleplaying the moment out.

How many of you have been LARPing?

About 6 years ago I played in a Vampire/Masquerade LARP for about a year. It was different but ultimately not what I was after (mainly because I am a purest of sorts when it comes to Vampire).
A couple of my friends occasionally attend a fantasy LARP event each year (The Gathering) and they have tried to get me to go along but their descriptions of it really turned me off it big time.

I'd rather stick to TT games.

I play Shattered Isles and King's Gate as my primary LARPs, with a few other local games as sidelines. I am a LARPer first, then a tabletop roleplayer. Whenever possible, my players and I prefer to tweak tabletop rules to mirror the ideas and (pardon the phrase) "realities" of the LARPs we all play.

LARPing has made me realize how little I get into character in tabletop games. There's a sort of block that keeps me from completely relaxing and reacting as my character that I just don't suffer in a LARP. The absolute truth of What You See Is What You Get (for player appearance, anyway) has a lot to do with it.

I have played in two or three salon-style LARPs before. They were fun, but not as fun. Combat was painfully slow, as opposed to the boffer LARPs that I'm used to. I'd play them again, if they didn't conflict with my other games.
